I have recently bought a 1965 Reissue Mustang and no matter how much i love it i really want to change the pickups and i was wondering what sorts of pickups would be good to use.
Also any other ideas for customisation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
x

have u heard of lindy fralin?
they make some pretty sweet pups, though their not cheap...
they make some mustang replacements (in all the same varieties as the strat)

That's not a bad price, but I'm sticking with the stock ones in my Mustang.

mustangs were designed for students, so, naturally, the pickups aren't that great, but since '64 was the first year of mustangs, i'd keep the pickups as a keepsake in-case u ever want to sell them. I'd upgrade the pickups for better sound, tho. (those switches are good for series/parallel switching  )

Speak for yourself.
The pickups are much better than "not that great"

I love them.

And the Mustang actually wasn't intended as a student guitar on the same level of the Musicmaster, but as a bridge between the student guitars & the Strats & Teles, and they are great little guitars.

You may not like them, and that's fine, but please no blanket statements that are not qualified beyond calling them "Student guitars."

My statements are qualified by agreeing you may not like them, and realizing they're not for everybody--but they certainly are the right guitar for some people.

If you're talking to me, no--it's not a joke.
If you're referring to Mustangs being a bridge between the cheaper student models & the Strats & Teles--I've seen this referenced in many places--if it's incorrect--well I'll retract it if I see something showing it's incorrect.

As far as saying I love the Mustang pickups & that Mustangs are great little guitars--no joke--I love my Mustang--I love the sound I get from it, and I love playing it.

Now I have a 78 made in USA Mustang---I've never played a newer Mustang--so I don't know if the quality is lower.

I did also say I realize that Mustangs aren't for everybody.

But as for me--no joke--I love my Mustang.
