Hi Forum

I Have the Mustang II Amp over a week and have found it a Great Amp compared to my Vox Vt 30 .
I love the FUSE software and the knowledge of being able to create Customized Presets of my Own.
However I notice the buttons SAG and TUBE bias on the software.
Can anyone tell me what difference these buttons make to your created amp sounds.
I Love the British Invasion 60`s amp tone would the SAG and TUBE bias make this Preset a more better sounding Tube Amp Sound.
If anyone has used these buttons perhaps they could share some settings with me Please.

Regards
Ronnie

Hi,

BIAS
Yes, they actually work very similar to an Tube AMP .. If you Bias down the AMP you should get a cleaner sound since the Tubes are are actually warmer .. Bias up and you get less head-room and more distortion ...

SAG
Is actually amazingly like a old Super Reverb or Virbro King feel when you increase it ..you really get that natural tube compression.. spongy sound ..and decreasing the sag control ..cuts down the compression sound and spongy feel ...

Two cool features to play around with .. you'll think you have a whole new AMP

Thanks aLinux for that info.

If I take down the SAG all the way down to the Left and increase the Tube

Bias towards the Right will that offer me a type of Warm Tube Amp Sound.

Sounds like this Mustang II is a successful budget amp with Pro Feelings.

Ronnie

Yeah i guess ... i dunno ..just experiment with it ... I find for clean sound
i increase the SAG ...for a more Tube (spongy easier playing feel) personal preferance ...but than again some Tube amps with cathoed based rectifier tube dont have a SAG/Bias setting and dont sound compressed from the get-go ..but ppl prefer that too ..all depends on your ears ..but these MII's remind of an old 65' Super Reverb blackface ..feel wise when i utilize SAG and/or Bias adjustment(s).

Just get the awards ready and shined up nice because this is another great moment in musical gear history. Fender didn't pioneer amp modeling, but this is a remarkable amp for the money and it has won over many players who never considered Fender to be a leader in modeling technology. I have started to save up for the Mustang III Combo and am just waited for the announcement.

Definitely.. The sounds are endless in these suckers... Everything makes a difference...just the bass a treble controls alone can tailor some sweet
tones. M III 2x12 ..will be a hit...especially if its in true stereo...i don't think the
chorus, etc is in stereo with M I/II's or is it ?? anyone know....maybe only thru
headphones ..but yeah..I'd like to see whats going on with them (havent heard much)...but there going to kick some royal but out there

Here's a setting I came up with to get a later British Invasion "Day Tripper" sound. Set to the Sunn type amp. You can find it by going to either the Metal 2000 setting, or the Whitechapel Heavy model. Put the Gain up in the 7 to 9 range. Then drop the Volume down around 2 to 4. Make sure your Master Volume is low or the feedback will be painful.

Then go the the Advanced setting take the Noise Gate off, and set SAG on Less Matched, and Bias at + 50. You'll have to decide, depending on your guitar and the sound you want, if an overdrive is necessary or not. But I defy you to get better sustain or a warmer distortion at lower volume levels, even with a tube amp.

This setting will also works well for other high sustain / high distortion leads, like "I Want To Tell You", etc . . . Obviously this is too distorted for the Chimey Jangle in early Brit Invasion stuff. But if you want a heavy, mid to late Brit Invasion sound, try it. It will sing endlessly.

really?
the lower the bias - the hotter the tube?
really?

Sorry, I should have said 'cooler'. Bias down (counter-clockwise) to save tube life since they'll run cooler.

There are NO tubes in a Mustang amp.

To help define the SAG and BIAS controls a little better, here are the notes I took from the many didscussions about the subject here on these forums which I then condensed:

Different amp emulations will give different effects. But generally, putting SAG to LESS and increasing the BIAS usually improves the tube like feeling of Mustang amps unless you specifically want to create an effect (compression and or cleaning up the breakup/distortion).

SAG
  • "LESS" - cuts down the tube compression/spongy feel higher volume, more responsive attack, less negative feedback, more intense, less controlled/restricted
  • "MATCH" - (supposedly) emulates the particular model's natural tube compression character
  • "MORE" - increases the tube compression/spongy feel overall, a little less volume, loss of initial attack, less intense, more controlled/restricted

NOTE: If you are not driving the amp model hard enough to exceed the sag/compressor threshold, you won't notice any sag at all.

BIAS
  • low BIAS for a cleaner/cutting edge sound
  • high BIAS for a warm sound with less head-room/more distortion
