And away we go!

Image

Clockwise:

The tremolo is an ORIGINAL of originals, Floyd Rose. Notice that it is not made with fine tuners yet it is a top loader with the allen screws and insert blocks. The tremolo block itself (not shown) is typical of an original Floyd. It is NOT 'in-stone' if this is the tremolo I shall use. I have it temporarily in the mix as it is the only wide, two post job I have and it sustains like there's no tomorrow. If it indeed does fit the bill, all the better. You may notice some pitting on the bass side of the unit, right before where the height post claw is. Not to worry as a good friend of mine owns a chroming place. As a matter of fact, he is currently under contract with the Latin Percussion brand company to plate their stuff; he'll make this sucker look brand new!

Next is a new set of the new type of Dunlop Straploks. I think we all can agree that not using a set on any high-end guitar is sheer folly. They look gold in the shot but they are in fact, chrome.

Next is a REAL 1956 (or possibly earlier) .022uf "Bumblebee" cap. I removed it OEM from a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Jr. way back in 1974. I kept it all these years, waiting for an auspicious and singular purpose and I can't think of a better one than this!

Moving right along, you see a brand new neckplate and cushion, a new Jensen .047uf 'paper-in-oil' cap, new pickguard screws and new neckplate mounting screws. The plate, cushion and screws are all genuine Fender.

You may ask yourself, "Self" (you ask), "What's with the TWO outstanding, primo caps?" Well, I have a special wiring in store, one that includes a 750K pot which I custom made. More about this when I get to the electronics part for although I have a fully loaded pickguard, it is presently being unloaded for a unique wiring I've never done to any Strat before. You're going to love it! (Hint: A Super Switch is involved.) I'll lay out all the electronic parts when I've rounded all the pieces up. Yes, I have them all but they are in multiple stashes, some of which I won't be able to get to until next Saturday, believe it or not.

Well, this is my very first installment. I welcome all questions, comments and critiques.

Martian the offer still stands for the brass bridges and on top of that I found a one piece cast steel chromed vibrato block with vintage spacing that you're welcome to also-I believe it may be Mighty Mite but don't take that to the bank as it's about 30 years old but absolutely mint. dbelbin@yahoo.ca

Awesome! :D

I've just put pen to paper to try and work out what your up to with the wiring. I'm intrigued to say the least. 5 way super switch right? I'm also very much looking forward to hearing more about a “Martian Custom 750k” pot too!

Good stuff!

Andy (quite excited about all of this!)

I haven't forgotten your generous offer and thank you for this one. As this Floyd is positively not 'in stone', I have and shall definitely continue to keep you in mind. Again, I really need the body in front of me to make a final determination.

Yep, 5 way Super Switch. I knew the switch and pot value would grab your interest!. Here's a vague hint: The pickguard shall continue to look totally stock, right down to the functionality of the three pots.

I bet the 750k pot is a double gang, like the TBX. the 500k side is to blend in a humbucker, the 250k side is a tone pot.

Is that possible???

I just don't understand superswitches at all so won't hazzard a guess at that.

Hi Martian
What sort of body would you need to accommodate the type of bridge you have would a standard two point strat body work or one with floyd rose routing? Anyway I am looking forward to what and how you do this build. As you may or may not know I have the same pickups you are using and have postponed the finish of a build to see what electrical configuration you select.Rock on ,Craig

Nope, none of the pots are double gang. Two are 250K and one is the 750K.

As to Super Switches, they are literally four switches in one but contrary to popular "Infallible Web Dogma", they are not merely four 'normal' 5 way switches in one. The difference lies in the fact that although each switch of the four has a master wiper contact, each position of the switch only engages one solitary terminal each on each switch. Yes, this means that each switch is independent of each other unless you connect them in parallel or series, depending on your objective.

How then...? Each switch (of the four) of itself will not let you have multiple pickups engaged at the same time. Rather, this is where another one of the four switches must be wired so the two will electronically meet at a predetermined point and allow it.

The chief advantage to the Super Switch is that it allows for a single pickup or specific combination of pickups to be had in the player's chosen position of the switch. Needless to say, versatility of the guitar's pickups are maxed to the players tastes and stylings where too, any ordinary position and/or its placement can be eliminated or changed. Most ergonomic!
