I'm installing a set of Fender Fat 50's. The diagram says the pickup with the blue dot goes in the neck and the pickup with the red dot goes in the bridge. But there is no pickup with a red dot.

Here is the breakdown:

One pickup with black and white wires and no dot.
One pickup with yellow and black wires and no dot.
One pickup with black and white wires and a blue dot.

What goes where?

Based on other Fender pickup set color codings, the blue dotted pickup is for the neck position; the yellow wired pickup is for the middle position; the one with no dot by process of elimination is for the bridge position.

My set was marked the same -- no red dot on the bridge pickup. The correct installation positions are as Martian has described.

Best of luck, the Fat '50s are really nice pickups.

Hey 357, what is your review of the installed Fat '50s ?
Have you found the best pickup height for tone?
Ash or Alder and Rosewood or Maple? thanks-

In my case swamp ash and maple, on a custom-built hardtail platform......

I set the pickup height at around 2.5mm on the treble side, 3.5mm for the bass strings.

It sounds rich and articulated, with plenty of "Strattitude". The mids are enhanced (as expected with this particular pickup set) though the guitar has plenty of spank on demand. With the tone control rolled all the way back in position 5 it makes for some nice "Creamish" woman tones when played through a saturated-and-overdriven amp. I couldn't rightly ask for much more.

Thanks for the chime in from the other side of the world!
I did install a set of fat '50s and am impressed.
Works for me, the bridge pup is not so over wound and had a smoother tone.
My almost-a-Classic Player '60s project is complete.
