Just picked up a Highway One Strat. Was looking at the web site trying to figure out the date of manf. I don't see anything for the Highway One or numbering similar that would be current. the serial number is 1000xxxx. On the site that would correspond to a date of 1965. I know that is not correct. Any help????

If you bought it second hand, it could be that its a parts-caster.
Or maybe your looking at the wrong number, the one on the bridge isn't the serial number, the one on the back of the neck is.

This was a brand new guitar. I got it thru a local dealer, he had two. One on display and the one I got was new in the original shipping box. I removed the protective covering from the pickguard and back plate. The dealer said he had received two of the very last Highway Ones available, had a hard time getting them. The serial number that I posted is on the back of the headstock. Definately on the bridge. I have some pictures but have no idea how to post them.d

Thanks Nevin, the dealer is very reputable and well know here. I assume they got it dirrectly from Fender. They are a key dealer here in Rochester. Perhaps there is a new numbering system for 2010?

This may have some useful info - and it notes that the numbering system did change for 2010.

Thanks Simon. It would appear that it may be the 1st convention that they scrapped. Possibly late 2009 or early 2010. The only thing is that there is no space after the 10 as discribed in the text. Just 8 consecutive number with no spacing (10001906).

I bought a Highway One Strat back in May and it doesn't have any letters in the serial number.

It's legit; the 2010 serial numbers no longer have a letter prefix. They do start with a "10" so it would be something like "10XXXXXX". You have to look closely but you can see that the first two digits (the "10") are a slightly different font than the other 6 digits.

I also believe that Fender made a change in May and that from that point on the serial numbers will now read "US10XXXXXX".

Here is an American Special Strat with the "10XXXXXX" serial number:

Here is an "Ivory" limited run American Standard with the "US10" serial number:

Edit: You can see why they made the change; it's much easier to see that the "US10" is a prefix than you could on the earlier ones with just the "10".
