Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a used Strat with a serial number Z60xxxxx. The guy that's selling says its a 60th Anniversary American Stratocaster.

I've searched Fender website but cannot find info on this model, neither on this type of serial number. I'm affraid this might be a fake.

Can anyone tell me what the serial number of a 60th Anniversary American Stratocaster like? Is it USA or Mexico made? How much does it costs new? Is it a good guitar?

Thanks in advance for any help.

c

The guitar could very well be a 60th Anniversary Model. The bigger question is, "Does the guitar have an actual small diamond (cubic zirconium diamond) with the words, 'Sixty Years' on either side of it on the front of the head stock?"

In 2006 Fender placed a little metal disk on the back of all their instrument's head stocks with a diamond and the number 60 stamped into it. Just because it has the little metal disk does not mean it's an Anniversary model.

Before buy the guitar, make sure it's got a real diamond in the head stock.

American Fender necks have a black walnut plug at the tryuss rod
American Fender Necks Serial number is on the rear. MIM SN is on the front and MIJ are near the heel.
The 60 year emblem is just a stick on piece of metal. I believe those were made in 2006 and the date is always on the heel of the neck stamped on where the screws go.
The little metal discs can easily be pulled off and stuck on any neck or anything for that matter.

I'm glad that there are people talking about this. It's been a big thorn in my mind about these guitars with small gold foil stickers and metal disks on the back of the headstocks of all instruments made by Fender.

There are many people out there (most of which don't realize it) trying to sell their Fender guitars stating, "Anniversary Model." These guitars are not special and to sell them as an Anniversary Model is misleading.

I love my 50th Anniversary Strat. It looks great, sounds great and has the coolest gold case lining. It's got one of the nicest 2-color-sunburst finishes I've ever seen. The pickups are Custom shop '54/'57s and the neck is wonderful.

The walnut plug on US made Strats is brown. Black plug is Mexico made Strats.

I have an american 60th diamond anniversary model. The serial Z60XXXXX is on the back of the headstock. There is the round 60th anniversary button also on the back of the headstock. On the front of the headstock in place of the custom contour body decal is a scroll with a fake diamond on the center and sixty years written on the scroll. The neck plate has fender and a diamond etching with 60 in the center. The body is sunburst with a rosewood modern C neck with a 9.25 radius and 22 medium jumbo frets with pearloid dot markers. The pickups are the vintage 57/62 with a delta no load tone control. The guitar also came with a custom silver case with a 60th anniversary diamond patch on a deep red plush interior (the case is actually kinda fugly...lol) hope this helps ....have a good one!

This is the correct discription. All Fender instruments from 1996 received the little round medalion saying, "60 years," these are not Anniversary models. Only the one ones described above are actual aniversary models. The others are just guitars made during the aniversary year.
