A couple days ago, I bought a new Stratocaster and I am trying to understand its origin through the serial number database. Unfortunately, I am unable to find where this particual guitar fits in. This new strat's serial number is comprised purely of numbers. 8 numbers to be exact, where the first number is a 1. The face of the headstock states that it was "Made in the USA". Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

what model is it?

the 1 most likely indicates that it is a 2010 model. if my memory is correct when i was looking at some new 2010 models there serial numbers started with 1's.

I got it!

this was taken from the fender site, hope it helps!

Also, the serial numbering conventions for Fender instruments built in the United States and Mexico changed not once but twice for 2010 and onward. These are:

•Serial numbers that begins with 10, followed by a space and then several other digits. This system was quickly replaced by a second convention, although instruments bearing these designations were produced for a few months in late 2009 and early 2010.

•Serial numbers that begin with “US” and “MX,” followed by two digits that denote the year and then several other digits, thus denoting the country of origin and the model year (a serial number starting with “US12,” for example, would describe a U.S.-made instrument built in 2012; “MX10” would describe an instrument built in Mexico in 2010).

your serial number falls under the first bullet.

Tanner, Thanks for the investigation and replies. The US information "almost" fits. However, this guitar's serial number is purely 8 numbers/digits. Therefore, the entire string nnnnnnnn, without any spaces or dases. I believe that the guitar is an American Standard, but just having some trouble validating this. I have another strat, from the 90's, which was a snap to locate. Unfortunately, it is not the same case for this guitar. Any additional support/guidance is greatly appreciated.

you can always post pics of the guitar on here, that would really help in determining what model it is.

While that bullet that Tanner posted says there is a space between the "10" and the other 6 digits of the serial number I don't believe there is a space. Frankly every new Fender I've seen has had what looks to be an 8-digit number that happens to begin with "10". I will say that on very close inspection the "10" appear to be a very slightly different font than the remaining 6 digits.

It sounds to me that these new serial numbers are still a bit of a "work in progress"; hopefully these new "US10" serial numbers will have either a bit more space between the "prefix" and the 6-digit serial number or perhaps the "US10" will be in a more visably different font. I have yet to see one of these newest serial numbers but I have seen a few of the first version.

Post a photo, but I would definitely bet a mortage payment that you have a 2010 model USA-made Strat. You'll need to post more specs or a photo to verify that it is an American Standard (versus an American Special or an Highway 1).

EDIT: I grabbed this photo of the back side of an American Special headstock from a dealer site to show what I was talking about with the "10XXXXXX" serial numbers - the "10" runs into the other 6 numbers but it looks just slightly different from the other 6 numbers:

Should be either an American Vintage reissue or a Vintage Hot Rod; they use the V prefix serial numbers located on the neck plate.

You can't tell anything about production dates from the serial numbers on these because Fender stores these in a parts bin and the assembler grabs one at random. Somebody on the other Fender Forum (fenderforum.com) did a chart with an approximate number range for a given year so you can "guesstimate" the year by the number, but that is even more inaccurate than the serial number system on the non-reissue USA and MIM guitars.
