Does anyone know on the Standard Strat or on the Classic Series '50's Strat what the pickup routing is like?

I'm looking to build a dual-humbucker Strat, as Fender doesn't seem to make one right now, and I'm looking at either of those. I like the Daphne blue and the v-neck on the 50s, but I'd settle for a Standard if the routing isn't right on the 50s.

The standard is not routed for the humbucker…I not totally sure about the 50’s but I don’t think so…I have been wanting to do the same thing… I know Fender makes the Dave Murray routed that way and has the pickups in it…..I have been thinking of the chavel side of fender at the san dimas for that sound….Only problem is the Floyd rose set up has a flat neck and I like the rounded Strat neck….I been looking at pawn shops for a used one I can rout out but there hard to find around here…..I may look at Warmouth and just build me an AX but that would be a lot more money……so I just keep hitting the pawn shops and creigs list looking for and old one to butcher.

Cheers
Bill

The MIM '50s and '60s re-issue bodies feature traditional S/S/S pickup routs.

Heres my powerhouse routing.

Not very clear I know, you can just see the edge of it on the right hand side.
Not quite big enough for a full sized bucker but bigger than a normal single coil route. Pretty certain my AM Deluxe is the same too. I stongly suspect the AS Standard to be the same.

Heres what I had to do to get a bucker in it

In truth next time, I'll just put a singlecoil sized bucker in there, cos it is a nice sound on a strat. Just not nice enough to warrant losing the middle pickup for.

Heres what I'd expect a vintage reproduction guitar to be routed like.

The newer models of the Fender Strats are available with the dual humbucker option in the bridge and neck positions. You also have the option of purchasing 2 humbuckers that are the same exact size as a single coil pickup, so that you don't have alter the pickup cavities in your guitar. You might want to install some Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails. I have one installed in the bridge position of one of my Fender Strats. They are one of the highest output pickups that Seymour Duncan has and they sound awesome. I wouldn't recommend doing one of those swimming pool routes that some people do to their guitars. That would be a hack job. You could also buy an after market guitar body from a manufacturer such as Mighty Mite that has humbucker cavities and is Licensed by Fender. You also might find one on Warmoth's website that is current available on special.

I stand corrected. Apparently, Fender carries a couple models that are HSS such as the American Deluxe Strat HSS model# 011-1500-700 and the American Standard HSS model# 011-0100-700. The only model that I am aware of that comes with dual humbuckers is the Dave Murray Artist Series Strat model # 011-8802-(806). It is an HSH:

Neck Pickup: Dimarzio PAF DP-100
Middle Pickup: Vintage StratStyle Single-coil
Bridge Pickup: Dimarzio Super Distortion DP100

If you are not familiar with Dave Murray, he is a guitarist with Iron Maiden. However, since this is an artist series Strat it is quite pricey. I would recommend that your just modify your own Strat with the dual humbuckers of your own choice, it would be much cheaper in the long run.
