Last year about this time there was a lot of talk about a Robbie Robertson Strat and the wiring of such a Strat.

I found and posted this info at that time:

"The rear knob on Robbie's guitar is a push/pull. If it is in the up position the pickups work like a normal Strat would. Now if the middle pickup is RWRP and it is wired in Series with the Bridge pickup it becomes in essence a Humbucker. So, if the push/pull is in the down position it kicks in the Humbucker."

Last night I sat down with the wiring diagram that my brother Redmax61 had drawn up with my telling him how I wanted it wired. I got out my soldering supplies, new push/pull switch and my MIJ '68RI Strat. A short time later it was done.
I did not move the middle pickup like Robbie's. I am quite pleased with the new tone option, and to my surprise I found that if I move the 5 way to position 4 while the push/pull is in the down position I get all 3 pickups!!!!

Interesting setup. Do you mind posting the wiring diagram somewhere so we can have a look.

I seem to remember Robbie Robertson being a big user of the double humbucker strats. Having said that theres not alot of video out there of The Band that isn't taken from the Last Waltz.

Hi Chet: you and Redmax are the kings of this stuff. Some of us are still greedily hoarding your "better than Brian May's Red Special" wiring diagram - a work of art.

Be most interested to see this one too - I bet you've done it beautifully!

Deep respect.

Whats really galling me is that my black strat (the lab rat) is at the drummers house. For the cost of £2 I could knock a pickguard up to put the middle next to the bridge.
I wont be able to try it out till after next thursday.

Robbie used a black American Series Double Fat Strat with dome Tele knobs during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in March 6, 2000, trading some tasty blues-rock licks with his old friend Eric Clapton, who was inducted for his solo work.

Robbie is perhaps best known for his endorsement pedigree with Chicago-based Washburn, promoting the Chicago series guitars in 1990.
