I was under the assumption that my 2007 MIM Standard Strat wasn't shielded. I thought that the shielded cavity was an upgrade for the latest Standard. So I ordered the self-adhesive shielding kit from StewMac.

I downloaded the wiring diagram from the support site. So I knew what to expect when I took the pickguard off.

When I got it off I found that the pickguard was completely shielded with the foil, not just the little piece usually found by the controls.

Also as I was removing the wires, there was another wire that I wasn't expecting. There was a wire from the volume pot to a screw in the PUP cavity. Just like the shielded guitars.

So, is my guitar shielded with paint from the factory?

I attached some pics.

Yes, your guitar's body has shielding paint directly from the factory. This is why there was a ground wire screwed into the wood in the pickup cavity and then soldered to your volume pot.

Thanks Martian.

I am pleasantly surprised. So was this something that they were doing for a while and not advertising? How can they claim that the new model is upgraded with a shielded cavity?

My next question is should I install the SA Shielding Kit from StewMac on top of the shielding paint or just forget it all together?

It seems like a lot of work that might not have a benefit when complete.

Opinions?

Oh and what's with the 3 holes below the Mid and Neck PUP? Were these drilled out for weight?

Glad to help!

Yes, they were doing the shielding for a while and apparently, didn't 'blow their horn' about it.

The SA Shielding Kit as far as your guitar is concerned is redundant and a complete waste of time. If anything, excessive shielding (like what would be in your case) will cause a slight drop in overall output and highs and ironically, not quiet your guitar down any further.

Well that settles it then. I'll keep the shielding for a future project. Thanks again Martian.

And I looked up my SN on the guitar project. It said that the guitar was built between 2008-2009 model number 013-4600. I haven't taken my neck off to look for any date stamps, but I believe dating. Perhaps it was part of the transition to the new Standard released 11-2008, model # 014-4600.

So it's a 2008, not a 2007. Good to know.

You're welcome. The important thing is, you've got one made after 2006 which is when all the upgrades started happening.

I was told that this is where the mojo goes...

No, those are holes where some kind of device is put into them to keep the body immobile while on the various jigs.
