Of course Fender made left-handed pickups.

I believe that the only difference was the staggering of the polepieces was flipped around. They were marked L/H on the back, at least the old ones were.

You generally can't just rotate pickups 180 degrees; the wires might not be long enough and/or they won't fit into the routing that way.

Im trying to think what the difference is between a normal pickup and a "left handed" and I cant come to a conclusion :?

The staggering of the pole pieces (not all of them are the same distance from the strings.)

The casings (maybe call it a chassis,) aren't completely symmetrical, meaning on them one of the long sides is straight and runs parallel to the bobbin ( the part of the pickup the wires are wound around, and what sits under the little cap you see sticking through the pickguard,) The other side however has a sort of v shape, like a shallow roof top. The routes in most strats (all?) are cut to fit these. So if you just flip em, this would solve the placement of the pole pieces, but the pickups may not fit back into the routed body cavities.

Ok :D I get it now, ok so that would explain things, by looking at the picture of this guitar's routing I can understand, I didn't realize there were strats with this very narrow routing, I have two strats and I couldn't have this problem because they are routed for hums and the middle pickup route is wider kind of like a medium humbucker route, so I guess these pickups would fit perfectly well if flipped ... but yeah I get it now thanks :D

Recently I sent an email to Fender about this. The answer I received told me to just flip the right handed pickups.

On the other hand, by flipping a right handed Strat upside down and restringing it, Jimi Hendrix got a different sort of tone, as the pole pieces were also backwards.

So it's not a horrible thing if you can't find decent priced left handed Strat pickups.
