Okay, I'll be the one to ask, since I didn't see this question posed on a quick read of the existing threads...
Is the V1 / V2 4-button footswitch at all compatible with the GT? I know the lettering for the functions is different, but I'm curious if the internal circuitry might be the same?

Yes, fender not only acknowledges its the same, they are going to make magnetic faceplates to put over the old switch so the labels are correct as per the new functions. And when they are available they;re giving them out free ! theres a PDF of the image too so you can print and paste it if you want to do that while waiting for fender to have them ready. here ya go.... https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... amplifier-

Awesome! I was actually thinking about making an overlay if the switches were compatible (and if I do decide to buy one of these amps).

Thanks for that tip, oczad! I just got the GT100 on May 7th and put my Mustang III in my office at my sign shop for when I'm there late. The 4 button switch stays with the GT now and the overlay did the trick.

Yes you do need the overlay as it has different functions for each button. Once I understood the overlay the older model pedal worked perfectly for me. Thank you.

This may be a dumb question, but can you use both an expression pedal and the MS-4 footswitch with the new GT-40?

Yes...apparently you can daisy chain them. I haven't tried myself, but I have seen instructions online and intend to buy one myself...

I like the fact they will be offering the magnetic face plate for free! I just bought a 4 button switch a few months back when the 1 button that came with my Mustang III died. I'm sure it won't be long before I upgrade to the GT100.

Speaking of this, Brad, do you have any idea when the magnetic overlays will be available?

I had more opportunity to play both GT 40 and GT 100 , along with

Image

Fender EXP-1 Expression pedal and two versions of the Fender 4 button foot switch for a few hours:

I observe that with Mustang GT firmware 1.1.0 ,

Image
newer versions of the MS4 ( Mustang III) Footswitch is more compatible with the EXP-1 Expression pedal , allowing the EXP-1 Toe switch to toggle between GREEN Mode (Volume) and RED Mode ( Assigned FX Control)

Image
But I observe the ULT-4 ( GDEC3) footswitch is less compatible with the EXP-1, the EXP-1 Toe switch toggles between a mode with both the GREEN and RED LED are lit (Volume) and a mode with no LEDS and no function

I also observe that the foot controller interface using non shielded speaker cables between amp and pedals remains just as flaky as the older Mustang III , works 85% of the time or will lock up if you navigate too rapidly with your foot.

whatever you do - never play a Mustang Amp with the 4 button footpedal on a stage with a strobe light - I have experienced a Mustang amp that auto changed patches due the stage lights that were placed near the amp.
Fender Support specifies to avoid using standard coax instrument cables for Mustang (III/GT) foot pedals because the high capacitance negatively impacts the data clock edges of the communication link to the pedals, (this is why Fender ships the 4 button pedal with 1/4" plug speaker cable)

Image
MGT-1 ( Mustang GT)

The Mustang GT MGT-4 method of the Bank up / down selection on MGT-4 by Pressing 2 switches at once works for Bank Up ( 2 right switches , but I had to avoid Bank Down ( 2 left switches) because 90% of the time when using an older MS4 ,the pedal would switch modes or accidentally engage the Looper and enter Record mode, even though the pedal's left hand LEDs still displayed that I was still in PRESET Mode -

Only realized I had entered Loop Record mode because after 60 seconds of recording, playback will instantly start the playback of recorded track - aggravating !

Cant trust this at a gig I hope the official MGT-4 pedal reacts better when it arrives next week , but if you are able to use older Fender 4 switch pedals ( any generation) reliably with Mustang GT , count yourself lucky.

Is it correct that the new GT version of the footswitch cannot be bought until end of June? I want to use my looper!

I just made my magnetic overlay, printed the layout on a inkjet magnet sheet I got from staples and then put a piece of self adhesive laminate over it to keep the ink from rubbing off.

You can always buy the old one which is the same footswitch only with different labels and get the overlay when fender has them available. Or use the printable one for now and get the free magnetic overly when they are available. Why would you do that? Well, they ARE the exact same footswitch aside from the function labels (fender says this, and i have the old one and indeed it works like the new one) but the old one costs a lot less. I see them for $59 while the new one is $20 more. Plus you can find a lot of old ones used for probably $40 on ebay or reverb.
