Greetings! Most 1983 Toploader Teles with E3 serial I've seen have a golden "transition" logo, but recently I've spotted two with black 70-s style logo. Are they legit? Anyone knows what's up? I know it was a turbulent time for Fender, but I love those E-serial guitars tone and Sienna Burst finish and think of buying one. Thank you!

Never see '80 Tele with that '70 black logo.

Too many Fender looking guitars are fake.
There a re so many legit Tele, I'll won't buy this one .

Or show some photo

+1
If you have guitar in hand, you could check the finger board radius.
83's have 12" radius necks.

Everything seem right, the bridge and tuners are correct, no holes on the back, flat radius and 21 frets. Everythings, but the logo :) Here are some pics

Which color is it? Was it white and you re-finished it as a burst?
The pickup cover is wrong, either to many or to few screws.
The string trees have the wrong spacers.
The label is not correct.
Any pics of the electronics?

There's two different Teles as the OP wrote; "recently I've spotted two with black 70-s style logo".

Did a bit of googling; both those guitars are (or at least were at some point) located in Russia.
https://forum.guitarplayer.ru/index.php ... 5333.22800
https://reverb.com/item/23747884-fender ... 983-blonde
That opens up the possibility of models targeted to "overseas" markets (Europe/Asia etc.) with some subtle or blunt differencies to "domestic" (USA) models.
I have no memory traces about Telecaster logo colors/styles from the eighties, so that's very vague. But we're talking about the roughly same period as the H/I/K/EE serial number guitars.

Sorry, I think I'm raising new questions more than answering the current ones... :?

Thanks Jmattis, I sorta missed that in the initial post.
The op had access to pics and didn't or couldn't compare the two against each other.
The only thing those two guitars have in common is the headstock label and they are both top loaders w/ maple fretboards. Probably both partscasters, foreign or fakes also.
The white one has the MIM bridge and saddles, the sienna has the 83 bridge and saddles.
The white one has a period correct white pick guard w/ early 5 screw layout. The sienna has a 7 screw black guard.
The white guitar truss rod access looks funky to me.
The white one also has a funky silver stripe at the bridge between the pickguard.
Not enough pics of the sienna for other comparisons.
No electronics pics from either.

As far as I know US 83's were only made in white, black and TSB.
Perhaps other colors were made for export only, but they are usually well marked even if inconsistently.

The link to the sienna jmattis posted, may be a different guitar. It has the correct # screws in the wrong color guard and doesn't have the sticker from the ops posted pics.

Picture host is in French, look OP is French

My original 83 Tele have the same string T and spacer.

The white guitar truss rod access is like the one in my Tele.

The white pickgard lack of 2 screw, the black one is ok

ST,
I only do English and broken Spanish.
US 83's came w/ white plastic spacers under the trees. The close-up tree pic op post is from the sienna guitar.
Single ply white guard with 5 screw or 8 screw is the only correct configuration for US models according to most reference books.

I'm sure your just not remembering correctly!
1956 models 1st use of butterfly tree
1959 models 1st use of "metal" butterfly "spacers"
white nylon butterfly string tree spacers replaced metal spacers in 1964
https://shop.fender.com/en-US/parts/string-guides-nuts/pure-vintage-string-tree-kit/0992083000.html

Just sayin. Not an issue as far as the ID goes. The time frame and issues w/in Fender at the time are well known.

For (US) Telecaster models 10-1302 (case included) and 11-1302 (no case), the pricelist says Black, Natural, Arctic White but also Cherry, Sienna and Brown Sunbursts - plus custom finishes for additional charge .
Anyways, since Fender has almost always made custom finishes, color is not a reliable factor either way.

That Russian link is from 2015, so there's been plenty time to mod it. The serial number is the same - the headstock pic in my link opens up larger if you click it.
