Do you have a Bass, or Guitar you keep going back too? Either one you now have, or one you reacquire?

My Buddy Holly Tribute Strat has been my go-to guitar ever since I built it some fifteen years ago......

Looks great, sounds great, and fits my hand like my favorite 1911 pistol.

This is probably not the place to say it, but I have to admit that I'm always drawn to my Les Paul Standard because of the way it feels in my hands. It just seems to fit naturally into the way I play a guitar and just feels so great. It's not always the best in terms of getting the tone I want depending on the song, but it sure feels good to me.

I love my Stratocaster...it's a modified '62 American Vintage model, made in 1992 (precursor to the US reissue models offered nowadays). It is painted Fiesta Red, so it looks cool...it's comfortable to play, it sounds great, and it's an all-around amazing guitar.

Image

But I always gravitate to my modified hecho-en-Mexico Telecaster...

Image

Looks-wise, the Strat is much prettier (the Tele's nice looking, just a little plainer)...
The Tele is heavier and a little less "ergonomic" than the Strat...
And I prefer the looks and feel of the rosewood fretboard of the Strat over the Tele's maple...

But I looooooove the toughness, the sound and the overall feel of my Telecaster much, much more than my Stratocaster...I feel I can dig in and rip with the Tele...and the overall sound blows away any guitar I've ever owned (and most guitars I've ever played...that's not hyperbole, either)...

I'll admit to modifying both of these axes (cosmetically and electronically) to bump them closer to my personal taste, but my Tele has long since replaced my Strat as my go-to guitar...

Yeah, I do, because it's about the only damned one that doesn't need any work done to it. :P Actually, I did finally get my Squier Jazz squared away, so I can actually use that one with out any aggravation. I might start using that one, on a regular basis, too.

I only have two electric guitars (the second one is a metallic red SGR by Schecter, the entry level version of the pricier C1 model) but the guitar I end up using most often is my Squier Strat. I just love the thing.

She's currently in repose, waiting till I can come up with the money to have the frets leveled (or get a decent set of crowning files so I can do it myself), but my '96 Standard, "Ol' Blue" is still my #1.

Image

That said, my #2...the guitar that's been getting the most use lately, is a '95 Standard, also in Lake Placid Blue...she hasn't received all the upgrades that Ol' Blue has (yet), however she is rigged up for Roland MIDI...I call her Blue 2 - Ol's Blue's somewhat abused identical older sister! LOL!

Those are my primary "go to" guitars (as far as my electrics at least), however other favorites include my '99 Standard Fat Strat (The B_tch), '93 MIM Squier Series (The Ratt) and the Ibanez Artcore I picked up is quickly gaining favor as well. Interestingly enough, while I love my Seagull S6 and my Ovation CC257 (for studio and stage respectively), my "favorite" acoustic...meaning the one that gets played more than the others, is actually the little Applause (low end Ovation) that I snagged a few years back in a trade....she's always either here in the office or down in the living room and she's the one who goes to the park, on camping trips, etc..

...I guess I need to update my pics one of these days.

Yeah, my '65. I have owned it for almost 48 years and it feels like a part of my body when I strap it on. It felt that way when it was brand new, too. Here it is with a pic of my new American Standard HSS Shawbucker.

My baby, this is guitar I have taken my screen name from, it was my first good guitar. even at my young age, the few years Ive had this guitar, it already has quite a bit of sentimental value to me. Not to mention that it simply kicks major $$@. great sounding, great playing, not bad looking. Harmonic Design pickups (check those guys out. they do great work),. A "super 90" (tele sized p90) in the bridge and "Super Chrome" (tele sized p90) in the neck. stock bridge, which will hopefully be replaced soon.

I really like maple fretboards over rosewood. Years ago I bought the guitar of my teen dreams -- a brand new 3-color sunburst American Strat with maple fretboard. I still have it and love it . . . but I log very few hours on it.

I have another sunburst Strat -- a used and slightly beaten up 2003 Highway 1 in the original configuration with the small headstock, satin lacquer finish and a rosewood board. The red on the lower left bout is just about worn off from my arm rubbing against it for years. It gets most of my attention and it has since the day I bought it. Don't know why. I guess it just calls to me. I visit the other 11 guitars and two basses only occasionally.
