Yeah, the Jazz seems to be your main style, but it doesn't hurt to use a different paint brush, if it were, for a different effect. The P Bass would be good for that, I think.

You right Paul. The Precision for me is a good backup to the Jazzes. I'm at the point where either style plays well. The Amp does't hurt their playability either. For me the Amp does match up the basses I have. I feel like I have this Precision tuned in for my playing style. In the past there was something not quite there with my Precisions. This one is the exception. Image

I had a Precision like that once, with beautiful action and killer tone, but like an idiot I dumped it for some impulse buy. I'll never do that again, willingly.

I just consider myself very fortunate to get this one Precision back again. Maybe some day, you may get to replace it with another good Precision, if you want another one.

Yeah, I'd like too. I do have a Precision Bass Lyte, which technically is a Fender P, but a lot different than your classic model. It's a little smaller, with a Jazz neck and P and J active pickups. It does sound pretty good, though.

That sounds close to the configuration of the G&L SB-2 I had. Just not active pups on the G&L.

I remember you telling me about that bass.

What is the weight and playability of the P Bass Lyte Paul?

Well, it's not that heavy of an instrument and it does play pretty good. The neck is about the size of a Jazz, but it also has 22 frets, instead of 20. I think the body might be slightly smaller than a regular P Bass, but not by much. It has a short in it, so it's been put on the sideline for now. Also, a lot of the finish peeled off starting in 2005, but that didn't effect it's playability.

I've had a P-Bass Lyte too, and they are extremely comfortable instruments. This was my first active bass, and I didn't really understand that dynamic at the time, but all in all it had a great sound. Not a "traditional" P sound, but a good sound none-the-less. The bodies are made of basswood, so they are very light, though they can be easy to dent as well. But if you keep care, they can be great additions to your instruments.

I've seen a few on sale from time to time online. I haven't seen any that has the issue with the peeling and cracked finish like the one I've got does. I have no clue why that started doing that, but it did in 2005 after a gig I did in NYC. Could be because of extreme temperature changes, going from very cold and dry, to hot and humid, that might have contributed to it. Plus, me sweating over it during shows probably didn't help. I know the finish around the bridge wore off a little. It's been battle scarred. :P

The SB-2 is a real kicker. It's a P J, with no tone setting. Only the volume for each pup.

My friend and I played on some G&Ls (he was on guitar, and me bass) in some music shop, probably about 22 years ago, when we were both living in Florida. I remember it being a nice instrument. You know, I think it might have been that particular model, too.

The SB-2 is a very good bass, and pretty popular too.

Well, that was Leo Fender's last go around, so I imagine the experience he had from designing the original Fender onward when into them.
