This one plays better than the Ric, no two ways about it. Not just the sound, but the action on the neck is great. very smooth, and quick.

Unfortunately I know what you mean I owned a Ric for 16 years, and as good as it was I could never get the action how I wanted it. Yet the Precision which I asked for it to be set-up back when I bought it new in Jan '15, has been solid and stable since, even swapping the strings to flatwounds the neck has remained straight & action is perfect. The necks on the AS Precisions are amazing & the CS pickups for me are Fenders best, I love mine & hope to own it for many years to come.

My Precision has the Fender set up on it, with the ETB92 Nylons onboard. It plays great for me. I agree with you on the neck, and the CS60's. My Nylons are quick, and quiet too.

I guess Rics are one of those instruments that aren't the easiest to really be comfortable with off the bat. I don't know if it would be a love/hate thing, though. There's a lot of cool things about it, yet there are some things that are kind of a pain in the arse, like the horseshoe pickup system, if you're not use to it and play a certain way. If you play with your fingers anchoring on that area around the pick up, that would get in the way and you have to adapt to that. I suppose you can remove that, but I understood that thing is important to it's sound.

Just the overall differences between the Precision, and the 4003, for me the Precision is worth keeping, and playing. I wasn't going to keep both.

I see your point, especially when you have to do payments with those. I suppose if you had the cash outright, it wouldn't be as big of a deal. They're not exactly what you call cheap instruments, especially the Ric.

The Am. Std.'s are bad enough, but the Rics are in another dimension. The Precision is just a smoother player. It wasn't a tough decision for which bass to keep, I have the Jazzes that have the twin pups.

You've been mainly a Jazz player, anyway. At least from what I've noticed.

True, the Jazzes are my main Fender basses. But, I have to admit this Precision has me playing it more, than other Precisions I've had in the past.

I remember you really liking it before when you had it, but you had to get rid of it. It was pretty good that you were able to get it back again.

There aren't many that I can say I regretted having to sell, but this was the one. So, yes I'm glad I reacquired it. It worked out ok.

Who knows what will pop up in the future, though. GAS is always a risk anytime walking into a music store. :P

I'm trucking right along with it. This one I'm playing is the smoothest Precision I've played. It fits me fine. The Jazzes though still play the best.
