Yeah, either or. Paul McCartney had a set of Rotosound nylons on his Hofner when they did "Let It Be." In fact, I've seen pictures of it with those strings on it from that time period.

I believe Sir Paul used Nylons more than others want to admit too.

I’m sure he did. I wonder if he ever tried them on his Rickenbacker.

I wouldn't doubt it. "With A Little Help From My Friends", and "My Guitar Gently Weeps", always sounded to me to be Nylons on the bass.

Yeah, it does have that thump to it. He also used a Jazz Bass on the White Album, but from the pictures that I've seen, it looks like either flatwound or roundwound (probably most likely flats) strings.

It's hard to tell what strings are played on what bass.

Well, most Rotosounds have the red wrapping at the end, and nylon strings typically are black, so at least you can figure those out.

D'Addario Nylons are a dark, to cobalt color windings.

Yeah, sometimes they have them in other colors, like white, too. I think La Bella has those.

What's weird is that I have had several packages of Rotosounds over the years that had no wrapping. Same strings, same packaging, no wrapping. They seems to work just great, but no wrapping.

What kind of Rotosounds you use?
