It's nice to be playing a Precision that I like everything about it. Including the strings. I'm not thinking about changing the PG on this PJ Precision either. The color combination on it, looks ok to me. Are you going to keep your PG as is on your PJ Precision?Image

A white pearloid pickguard looks pretty cool with both Seafoam and Surf Green finishes. It's purely a question of taste.

The White Pearloid would look good on it.

That would look good. I wonder if they make a White Pearloid pickguard for this?

I really don't know. I'll have to check it out. A White Pearloid pickguard would probably look pretty darn sharp on your PJ Precision as well. 8)

That sounds like a nice sounding cab. You're happier with the 2 x 12"s instead of the 15" speaker?

By the way, we're hooking up with a guitar player, that my girlfriend knows in Boston, that has a rehearsal room full of crap, and he has an old Kustom 3 x 15" bass stack there, which I'm not going to use the head, but I'm going to bring my Orange head (I did get a Speakon to 1/4" speaker cable a long time ago so I could do this, if I needed to use an older cab elsewhere, and it wasn't practical or able to bring my own cabs) and run it through that cab. It kind of sucks that I won't be able to try out my cabs until I use them for a gig, but I guess I'll be using some 15"s. I can deal with that. It's just it would be difficult to hall those cabs up and down stairs somewhere in Boston, then try to squeeze them in some small space that's packed full of gear.

I still want to use my own head, though. I'll feel more comfortable with that, so I'd hate to be responsible of using someone's else's amp and the thing decides to burn out, or some other electronic failure, and the fact it's part of my sound. Obviously, I have to be careful running a 1000 watt head through some old Kustom cab, that I don't even know if it has the original speakers in it (if so, they're at least 50 years old, or pushing it, depending on the year of that thing,) but I doubt they can handle that much power. Then again, it's not like I'd even dime the thing to begin with, so I shouldn't worry too much.

Yes!!! I read through this maybe too early in the morning and totally missed the Kustom 3X15 cab. Kustoms KICKED!!!

I've never seen any in person, but have seen pics of them and they look pretty damned cool. I imagine with the 3 15"s should put out some low end. If there are the original speakers loaded into them, I don't know what the wattage is of them, or what the ohms rating is. I wonder if there's any specs online somewhere? I should try and see, just out of curiosity.

I played the PJ Precision today through the SVT-212AV for the first time today. YES!!! I like the Jazz, and Precision both through the Bassman 500/SVT-212AV.
I didn't see a Precision PG on the Fender site that was applicable to my Sea Foam Pearl. That's ok, I'm into that Parchment PG onboard anyway.

They might have one on other sites that make pickguards that can fit on Fenders. Come to think about it, I think I've might have seen that, when I was looking at Jazz Bass pickguards. I remember I did send you a link to one place a while back, but that is buried somewhere on one of these threads around here.

So the Precision works just as well with the 12"s as the 15"?

I like it even better. Honestly though, I've always been a tough nut for 12's. I preferred them in the late 60's over 15's, and I guess I never stopped my liking for 12's. The Eminence 12's today probably play better than the Jensen 12's from back then too. The head definitely has more power to it than my Traynor did also. Yeah,........ ya' know.

Well, they're probably a lot tougher, or designed to handle more power. Wasn't it pretty common back in the 60's to have 50 to 100 watt amps, at the most?

It really wasn't until about 1965 that more powerful amps started to appear for basses. And as we both know, Conrad Sundholm was the guy to go to for MORE POWER. Sunns. Other non bass amps were being setup for basses. Vox, and Marshall were two of them.

Would you say Sunn was the first amp purpose built to effectively amplify the bass? We know it was the reason for the company to start in the first place.

Pretty much, other than Fender Bassman Amps. But yes, Sunn did make the bass amp it's goal for the the much needed power. I guess I'd have to give Ampeg a nudge in there coming a lone as well for the Bass Amp's sorely needed improvements as well.

Standard Precision pickguards are applicable to your bass.

The only job you must do is to drill another hole for the neck volume pot since the stock pickguard has a top mounted jack on it.

The 13 hole PG's I have didn't come close to matching up. The only hole that matched up was the Jack hole.

You got me curious to see if there's any available options for my Squier Precision PJ Bass. Not that don't like what's on there now, but you never know if something really cool might be around.
