That's great that you're really playing the PJ, and getting to really get into playing it deep. 8)

Yeah, it's a great player. I'm glad I got it. It worked out quite well in that they happened to put in on sale, too. I still got a couple more payments to go on it, but they're only $50 a month.

I'm doing that myself.

It works out pretty good, as long as you make your payments, that you don't have to dump a lot of cash on it at once.

I'm paying as I go.

Yeah, I often do that, depending on the price and how much funding I have. I mean if I have the money, but I might need it for other things, and I have the option to use payments, I'd rather do the payments. Sometimes, things might pop up and you'd be glad you didn't drop all of that cash at once.

A good deal when there's no interest to get in the way.

I couldn't come up with a better Precision, that suites me as well as my PJ Precision does. Other than the strings, it's stock, and I really like it that way. The Fender setup, and myself, do well together also. Image

That's good. It's also a nice looking bass to begin with. 8) The neck looks pretty similar to the Geddy Lee, with the exception of having black inlays instead of pearl. If you were feeling even particularly experimental, you probably could even swap the necks between both of them and they'd probably fit, since they are both Jazz necks. I suppose the only reason would be to change the look of the inlays between the two basses, or just for the hell of it. :P

I like the black blocks with the Sea Foam Pearl body, and the white pearloid inserts with the Black body. I don't know that I'd like the combinations, after switching the two. The USA GL Jazz's neck adjusts at the heel, similar to an Am Std. The PJ Precision, adjusts at the head.

Oh yeah, I see what you mean with the truss rod adjustments. You ever have to tweak the truss rod on any of the basses? I had to do that with the violin bass, when the 1st frets notes started buzzing like crazy. That happened after I had put the flats on it, if you remember me ever talking about it.

You may have, I don't recall. I think about the only bass adjusted, was a Tribute G&L SB2. And that was an adjustment on a saddle. It was one fret out on intonation, that's about it. If it's set ok on a Fender specs, it's good with me. I play fine with Fender setup specs.

I was jamming out on my Precision Bass today, and find the action on it quite superb. No tweaking was necessary. The last Fender that played like that was my 50's Reissue Precision that I had in the 90's. The Squier I can safely say plays and sounds just as good as I remember that one was.

I will say, my Squier Jazz, although it's a fine player now, I did have to do some work to it, and I did swap out the bridge with a Leo Quan, which I had on the Peavey. That bass I also had to deal with sharp fret ends and the action was a bit too high. I also had heavier gauge flats on it, so when I corrected all of these things, switched to lighter gauge flats, then it was fine. Well, there's the jack issue, but that is another thing that came up later.

The Precision was perfect right out of the box, and I've gotten used to the rounds on it. Everything feels like it's broken in. I'm still debating about the flats, but there's a part of me that's even more hesitant to even mess with those, since everything is set up so well now. You know, if it ain't broke and all of that. I suppose eventually I will have to change the strings on it, either way. Rounds don't really age as well as flats, I think. Since you kind of want them to have that attack, or at least I do, when I have them installed. I've also gotten used to the rougher texture of them. I find that it doesn't slow me down at all. In fact, they seem to be quite flexible.

It sounds like a win, win all around. I agree with you, if it feels right go with it.

Yeah, it's really strange. Normally, I couldn't wait to get rid of the rounds on a new bass, but I didn't change them on the Precision. It was almost like I really didn't need to, unlike a bass like the violin hollow-body, which just didn't feel right with rounds. That bass needs flats for that mid 60's type thumpy tone, or at least to me. A Precision (I suppose a Jazz, too) has a broader tonal palate to it, I think, to where you can get away with whatever you want to put on there and it will adapt to that particular sound. It doesn't mean I still won't put flats on it, though. I was just playing it again, and every time I do, I wind up being even more indecisive about doing so.
