I just found the specs: http://www.schecterguitars.com/vault/listing/d-1-detail The fret board radius is 16" and the nut length is actually 1.496” (38mm), which is actually about the size of a Fender/Squier Jazz, which is really odd to me, because the neck seemed so much wider than that. I think what throws me off was the fret board radius on it, and it has 21 frets, instead of 20, which probably does change the spacing a bit. It's actually a really decent bass, but I've been digging my Squiers, and I need the cash to help pay off the Precision Bass. Plus, I don't need it anymore, since I already have another Jazz.

Wow, I feel like a dope. My brain totally went the wrong way, my apologies. I used to have a 12" radius and even that was too flat for my liking. I should have remembered, sorry. Thanks for the correction.

I'm not even sure how that applies, with the radius. I'm assuming the longer the radius, the flatter the fret board is? Or does it have to do with the thickness of the neck and the fret board?

That nut is thinner than a Jazz nut, at 1.50.
The radius of the board, is the actual measured curvature. I never paid attention to the thickness of the neck, and the radius. They may go together. The lower the number, 7.25" radius has more of a curve than a 9.5". As the number increases, the board flatness out more. you can really see the radius of a board, by looking at the base of the neck, to the head. This isn't the best pic of it, but you get the idea. 9.5" Radius.

No problem. It's funny how the radius on a neck is measured in the first place.

Oh, OK. I get that. Now, I want a bass with a radius of 2". :P Seriously though, I'll bet the radius of a double bass is quite low, since it's also designed to be bowed.

I haven't a clue about double basses. I wouldn't even venture a guess on those.

I've more or less attempted to "play" those things, but many moons ago, and that was an adventure in and of itself. :P Maybe I could do a little better these days, since I've got a few more years under my belt and better dexterity. It's definitely a more physical instrument to play, that's for certain.

Some of the early electric bass players, played their basses with the neck almost straight up, like a double bass. That's one reason the Gibson EB0 had it's front strap button at it's location to accommodate the angle.

Oh yeah, the EB-1 had some sort of stand thing that extended and attached to the bottom. I was actually looking at that bass the other day on some Gibson bass web site (I showed it to you a long time ago, if you remember it, or not.) That's a cool bass. Maybe if I ever win the lottery, I could buy one. :P

I wonder if anyone actually used it?

It's was kinda' like a small Cello in size, and with it being a transition style bass, there may have been some players that used it as a standup.

I know Bill Wyman use to play like that, but I'm not sure if it had to do with playing double bass, or not. He said he has small hands, so maybe that was an easier way to play for him.

I don't know the answer to that either. I remember seeing that he did play double bass at one time.
