Work in Progress linnin, thanks for asking.

Purchased a web domain and have a third party setting it up for me. Short term it will work as an editing site where those providing information can make sure it is being properly represented. It is being set up in a page view so I can actually see what page looks like, not just the content.

The Precision bass section is probably 75% finished, the Jazz bass section is not nearly that far. Not just because of lacking information, but I am having trouble finding some of the evolutionary models for inclusion. Still have some photo studio work to do as I picked up my 51P and 57P since the last time I went there.

Of course, the Performer section is nearing completion, more like 90% complete. I am stumped on whether or not Fender produced any Performers in custom colors. I have been asking for information from Rob, but have not heard back. There have been a few showing up being represented as original special finishes, which I have never heard of - but I would like to confirm if there was or was not any custom orders. Stay tuned.

Once I get through the big two, which are the hardest and lengthiest, and the Performer, which for me is the easiest, I figure it will still take about three years before printing, but the online version will be available to read way before that, while I am still making additions, corrections, etc.

The next one on the list is the Mustang, but except for pictures, that is not started yet.

Steve

WOW! Thanks for the update, Steve! :D

Sounds fabulous! It's going to be the definitive book in it's field. I'm really looking forward to it, and I want an autographed copy.

Steve, Is this a book documenting the changes each of the bass models went through over the years of is this book going to be a collection of pictures as submitted by owners with their own commentary?

Either way, I am interested.

Bill

Thanks Bill, I can use all the help I can get. I wish this was the only thing on my plate so it would move along faster.

The project started with these Fender articles "http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?display_article=884
http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?di ... rticle=904" outlining the other Fender basses through the Stu Hamm Urge II in 2001. Just 4 string production models. I believe it missed the MB, so I did too, but I collected at least one of all the other model groups. If you add in the P and J, it stretches the 50 years from 1951 to 2001.

Since then I have sold a lot of the newer basses from that first collection. They were mostly one and done, no real revisions. I then started collecting P and J models that hit on the major change years that were part of their evolution - but also followed this only until 2001. I am not collecting or tracking changes from there forward.

So the book, that will be a website first, will cover all the models from 1951-2001, and highlight changes made to keep the model relevant in the case of the P and J.

In a nutshell, that is what my project consists of. Gathering verifiable information has proven difficult in many cases, but it is a most enjoyable project.

When I get the first drafts posted on the website, I will bring you in. I know you have a lot of knowledge, and I will appreciate your input. We should have something up in the next 90 days. I know Pete, my webmaster, is working on it. He uses it for fill work between commercial accounts, but I get the price consideration, and that is good.

Steve
