Gentlemen,

New to the forum, new to Fender.
Recently I bought this bass, and I wonder about the opinions about it.
Sold as an all part original P-Bass from `76, I'm told it was previously owned by Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz's drummer).

Thanks in advance, Sebi

Welcome to the forum, Sebi, and congratulations! I also have a 1976 Precision that I bought brand new, and yours looks legitimate and original to me. What does http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx return when you run your serial number? Also e-mail your serial to Fender's consumer relations and ask for all information.

Must be an early 76, I think that's when Fender started putting serials on headstocks.

Thank you, guys.

The Guitar Dater Project says:
Quote:
Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): 1976

Based on the neck's serial number, it was made in July of `76 - if I understand correctly the numbers -, and yeah, there's no serial on the headstock, just patent numbers

Thanks!

Apparently 1976 was a transitional year with some serials ( both yours and mine) on the neck plates as is Fender tradition, and others decaled on the back of the headstock as they are to this day.

You might also want a George Ghrun appraisal. https://guitars.com/appraisals

It reminds me of a P-Bass version of the Jazz Bass I had (I mean by certain stylistic points,) which itself was a '77. So, I'm assuming also that it's around the same time period. Cool bass, by the way. 8)

I have a later '76 P Bass, and the serial# is on the front of the headstock, under the Fender logo - with the 76 bolded - here it is with my '74:

I have a similar colour, but that's not Fender - just a wannabe :)
It's made by an italian company, I bought it used in 1988.
I think the model called Vintage 5000 by Melody Guitars

Originally it was black, with a white pickguard, the paint was removed, and finished with shellac, and also converted to fretless.
Recently I put an original Fender P-Bass pickup in it, along with a Fender pickguard.
It has a really nice smooth, warm tone, with surprising body - specially regarding the price: I bought it for 10,000 HUF, which is now around 35 USD :)

That sounds like a good deal to me. 8) I wish I could find something like that for $35.
