So it would seem the American Standard Precisions are running out. I've had my sights on getting one, now there are only a few to choose from unless you want a 5 string. I've noticed in catalogs & on the Fender site. Anyone with their ear to the ground know what's up? Will I be able to acquire one of these magnificent machines or will I be SOL?

Yes, some colors are available. However, there seems to be no more Jade Metallic & Mystic Reds. When they run out is that it until Fender comes out with another Precision version? I ask cuz those were the colors I considered first. I suppose I COULD go black. I just have my heart set on getting an MIA Standard...and this model is the one for me. I'd be crushed if they called it a day & started developing a new version. Do you think they'd crank out a few more?

Mystic Red is still in production. If you are in the UK or Europe (and it seems you are) then you are at the mercy of the international distributor for the distribution territory where you live. Historically foreign distributors import fewer colors than are available in the home FMIC market of the USA and Canada. At one time during the late 1960's and early 70's you could get any color Jazz Bass you wanted in the UK so long as it was Sunburst. At another time in the late 50's and early 60's you could get any color Stratocaster in the UK that you wanted so long as it was Fiesta Red. In fact the distributor was actually painting over sunburst Strats to make them Fiesta Red for a while. None of this is Fender's fault, it is the international distributor's decision what to order. I'm not sure if Fender charges their international distributors more for a full color selection or not but the color selection overseas is almost always far more limited than in FMIC's home territory. I just checked and I can order a Mystic Red American Standard Precision online from my sofa directly from Fender. Other American Standard Precision colors here are Sunburst, Olympic White, Mystic Blue and Black with choice of maple or rosewood fingerboard. Of course you can't order one online directly from Fender if you are in a foreign distributor's territory. Their territory is contractually protected. Nor can any USA Fender dealer ship one outside the FMIC distribution territory. It just has always been that way. You can come to the USA or Canada, buy the one you want and take it back paying duty on it when you do.

I'm actually in FL. The Mystic Reds are currently unavailable. I was just wondering if Fender was already moving on to the next version, or might they be still cranking out the current one...as they are not making available certain colors/fretboards. Brother Dave, you have a surprising wealth of knowledge on the subject as always, so you may know better than most

Just checked again and the Mystic Red is only available here with a maple neck, not rosewood. It is also on "notify when available" status so apparently in high demand.

Probably not the best solution for you but AMAZON DOT COM has one each of Jade Pearl and Mystic Red in stock. They also have one of the discontinued Candy Cola AS P-Basses left.

Candy Cola is a gorgeous color that has to be seen to appreciate.

The one I wanted was Mystic Red, Rosewood. Guess i am SOL. Maybe for the best as a buddy has a red P & we share the same gig bill with them somewhat often. Don't wanna see too many red Precisions in one show...right?

Why not go to the American Design Experience? I know it's a bit more expensive, but you can make it your own.
No Mystic Red, but Candy Apple Red instead.
