Only have a couple of pictures of my 2014 AS Precision, but don't mind posting one of them again. I'm still really impressed with this bass.

1975 Precision

My first bass purchased used (like new condition) in 1979. I gigged with it for around 10 years. I replaced the pups with Dimarzio's around 1984. Other than that it's all original.
Still own it today and it plays and sounds good. I'll eventually hand it down to my son.

And although this is called a Jazz Bass Special, it looks like a P Bass Special to me:

Hi Gang,
Rather than start a new thread, I thought it might be better to post my question here, among the P-Bass enthusiasts, who might be able to help me identify this Bass Guitar I'm looking at. Here goes:

I'm looking at a MIM Precision bass in a local shop, and the price seems fair ($400). It has a Sunburst finish that looks sort of flat, ( like the Highway One guitars), Rosewood Fretboard on a maple neck, Satin Finish, And it has the P/J electronics setup. The controls are stacked pots (2), with a 3-ply W/B/W parchment pickguard.
It plays well and has a great tone, but I can't find it in the Fender products site anywhere! Possibly discontinued? The Bass looks like new, never been owned, but I'm wondering if it's a Frankenstein guitar since I can't find it anywhere.
What do you guys think? Can anyone help me identify if this is a legit P-Bass?

Thanks,
Harley 8)

Can you post some pics of it? What's the serial number?

Well...I have a couple of P's...

Currently I'm waiting on this bass (it was shipped from Fender 1½ week ago) masterbuilt by Jason Smith. A '57 P-bass but with a couple of "non '57" specs (stacked knobs, hipshot tuners, the extra 60's singlecoilpickup etc).

Image

The last P I bought before that was a Custom Shop '57 with a handwound "fat" '59 pickup.

I also own a hot-rodded P-bass (P/J pickups) in sunset transparent orange, a late 70's sunburst P and a MB Dennis Galuszka '51 P in red with a walnut neck. So a bit of different P's but all with different sounds :)

I went back to the shop to get a few pics and look at the SN#, but it sold already! I should have bought it when I saw it. No Problem. I'll keep looking for a bass guitar like that to add to my studio.

I'm primarily a guitar player, but I can play any other instrument I need competently. to build complete recordings from the ground up, and this is why I'm looking for a P-bass. I love the sound of that over all other bass guitars. The P/J pickup configuration just gives me a bit more in the low-end sonic canvas if I want to paint a different sound. I'm sure I'll find one sooner or later. Right now, I own a cheapie bass guitar, a 1983(?) Lotus headless model with the P/J setup. It's kind of cool, but just doesn't get the vibe that a real P-Bass will give you. I suppose I could try replacing the pickups with a set of Dimarzios to get a better vibe from it, but it still wouldn't be the real deal, if you get my drift.
Thank you for trying to help anyway!
