Hi, I new to this forum. I have had this bass since about 1981. Bought it with an Ampeg bass amp with 2-15's for $300.00 US! Moving from a short scale Univox bass it felt like a log, but it time it really improved my style.

Best I can tell is it is a 1971-73 model. I found an identical one on Ebay that is supposed to be from 1972. Any info out there that I might find useful on this?

Because the thumb rest is on the G string side I'd agree and say "yes" it's no more than a '73. My advice is to take the neck off, there will be a date stamped on the base of the neck.

Can I ask why? And off course, how much?

It is not important enough to remove the neck. 71-73 is close enough for me. So the thumb rest on the E string side would likely indicate a newer than 73 model?

Here's my '71:

I'm the third owner of this one. The original owner was killed in a car crash during which the bass was ejected from the car. The case was totally destroyed, but the bass survived with just a couple scars.

And my '72 (w/ '73 jazz bridge p'up and '66 P-bass neck):

I purchased the loaded '72 body from Juan Alderete (Mars Volta, Racer X) and tried out a few necks until I found the '66 P-bass neck.

I don't play Bass I play the acoustic and electric 6 string. Is Bass hard? I want to try to learn how to play. .

I know, I probably won't be any good. I want to try though. . However, I'm not a master at the Six-String yet. But, is Bass hard?

Any instrument played properly would be difficult at first, as you learn and muscle memory on your fingers build, it becomes less difficult. G/l, go for it!

Hey I'm also new. I started playing about 2 weeks ago. Here's my first bass, a Fender Standard P Bass. It looks and plays great. Not bad for a first bass? I got it barely used, but it was cheaper, $389.

Here's my long-suffering 1991 P-bass Plus. 22 frets, passive Lace Sensor P/J pickups, series/parallel switching on the P, Elite bridge, slim neck...love it to bits!

As far as I can recall, it was a custom shop production run, back in the day. They sold a few at the time, but they don't show up much anywhere these days!

Quite fancy a Big Block tho. And a 51 RI. And a Dlx 5...lol

I so loved those '90's P basses with the "modern" bridge, and the lace sensors, c'mon, those were the bomb then! :)
