Ishibashi had a similar model on their web site: natural ash, unlined fretless maple fingerboard, with a black pickguard and a thumb rest.

I started saving my pennies, but then Fender told Ishibashi they could sell Fender Japan models only in their designated market area. By then I had to have one, so I bought the ash FSR and ordered a neck from Warmoth.

I have not gigged with it, but not for lack of practicing. Since I finished it, most of my work has been on electric guitar...but this one sure is purty.

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful bass! That bass looks great (and must sound great too), and you are an amazing photographer!

Well, it's a beautiful bass if I may say so.

Thank you! It's a great playing and sounding beast, too...but then, I'm a big P fan after many years of playing Jazz basses. I got a Squier II P for next to nothing a couple of years ago, just to try out, and it made me go for a Fender (nothing wrong with the Squier's tone, but its plywood body was heavy and some rocket scientist had cross-threaded the truss rod). The chunky neck and the tone convinced me that I had been following the wrong path for lo these many years.

Although I'll add, in my own favor, that I never actually owned a Jazz until recently, when I acquired a Standard fretless -- which got me into fretless playing, but has now been traded off in its turn -- I was always the lead player and, when the bassist wanted to scare people on guitar, he'd hand me his J.

Hahaha, that's awesome. You know, I've not found anyone to play better with me than my best friend and our drummer from Face Up 2 It. We just really clicked together, we knew what each other needed and wanted. We were together in HS with a few other guys, but the main 3, which is me, my best friend Mav(lead/rhythm guitar) and Paul(on drums) always played well together up to college and after college. Even now, I've not played with anyone like those 2 ever, and they've said the same. We all live too far away from each other now. Mav getting PhD in B'ham England, Paul lives in PA - just got a gig to travel to Europe with his new band, and me in WI, too busy w/kids and work and fam life...

That's really great.

There's nothing like playing with compatible people. I've gone the gamut from playing with guys who seemed to read my mind to others not so sharp. Time has a way of separating...but the aforementioned bassist/guitarist now lives about 30 miles away, so we get together when we can (about once a week). We trade off on bass, lead, Dobro and harmonica (he also plays powerful rhythm, which is something I've never mastered) and it's always to treat to sail into one of the several hundred songs we've done over the years and know where he'll be 3 choruses down the road.

Nice fretless! Also nice when you lock in with someone like that.

My 1975 P Bass prior to it's rebuild.
Image

I've had this for many years. I installed a badass bridge in 1980 and a new pick guard last year. The original owner stripped the paint and applied a clear coat, put a different pick up in it plus a few other changes that I have never been happy with so after several years of contemplating things I have decided to have it restored to it's original glory. These are photos of the guitar before it's rebuild. "After" photos to follow....

Great classic bass Dish, though I am not a fan of natural basses.
