It's boring old white. At some point, I will change it out.

This is my '84-'87 MIJ p-bass. Can anyone help identify exactly what year? The serial number is E621760. I bought it around '90 for $80, with a promise to pay another $120 in a month, but the previous owner left town and I could never track him down. Best bargin I've ever got.

Notice the finger wear beside the E string (seem to always miss the finger- er, pick guard) and the cig char marks on the headstock. Seen too many gigs (and too many burnt, un-smoked cigs) to count. I love the play and sound.

I've though about changing the pickguard, white is so common, but it really looks good against the blue.

OMG, you're the dude who owes me $120 from way back in 1990. I never left town, I been incarcerated since then.

And looking at a couple sites to date your bass, I get the same '84-'87. That's a big range there. Maybe Chet or PJB can figure add some insight. As far as the pickguard, I say change it. I am not a fan of white pickguards. If you don't like it, you can always change it back. And nice bass BTW.

The thing that stink about the '84 - '87 MIJ is just that, wide range. The reason I knew mine was an '87 was Sam Ash showed me when the bass was ordered and when it came, ordered in Dec '86, got to their store in 7/'87. I bought it in '89. AFAIK, there aren't any ways to figure out the exact date for the basses/guitars that were MIJ.

I must say this is one of the nicer basses I've seen on here. I just picked up an '89 P Bass Lyte and hope to have an American P Bass Deluxe Five String to go with the four Ive had since '97. Here's the Lyte....Image Image Image Image Image

I've always like the Lyte's bridge and the covered pups.

Hey everyone. I posted a picture of my P bass down a while ago...

Anyways...I am really considering putting a chrome guard over my pickups, to give it a really cool vintage look , but i was wondering if there is major drilling required for putting one of these on.

Thanks.

This is a bass that I no longer have but It was or still is a great bass . A MIM bass with a quarter pounder pickup . And I know that Zod likes to see pictures .
