Cuz back in the day('70s), majority of the bass players were slapping, so it was a more of a finger(s) rest.

The thumb/finger rest was included on the earliest P Bass models too, wasn't it?

Quick question anybody can answer: I'm interested in installing the classic ashtray bridge cover on my 2008 American Standard P Bass, but I've heard somewhere that it won't fit properly on the new bridges. Can anybody clarify that for me?

Thanks!

Yes. Look online a while and you'll find plenty of pics.

I've not measured the bridges but there is some room around the standard bridge under the cover so even if the new bridge is a little bigger the cover may still fit. It's just a $15 piece of hardware so try it and if it doesn't fit, you could toss it or always put it on another bass.
