You may laugh, though I just discovered Tony Franklin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxZukx-Drw0

I saw his name on the Precision bass product page though I never though to check who he was - I though he was just another guy doing slap all day.

Apparently I am very wrong. I love his style - lots of groove and not an ounce of slap :-)

He also makes the P-Bass look very cool!

Hey, at least he's still alive. I've discovered musicians and their music in the past only to find out they've died. Talk about a bummer! :( Yeah, Tony is pretty cool, especially on the fretless. The first I ever heard of him was in the Firm with Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers.

His sig bass is very, very nice. I'm not a P/J guy, but the switch he has on his cures the passive P/J ill of loading cutting some of the "oomph" out of the split coil when you want to run it alone. Honestly, I think that switch should come stock on all passive P/Js.

I quite like his bass, though I am not convinced it is a step up from the Am Deluxe P-Bass.

I also just bought a D-Bass so need to stop - a new bass would be pointless.

Yeah, GAS can be a monster to deal with. :P I've known individuals that have had over 200 instruments, if you want to talk another instrument being pointless.

I seem to have a natural feedback mechanism; beyond a certain number of basses I may buy, though I feel the need to sell as well. This isn't just a funding thing, but I also hate having unused basses in my room.

I seem to have a core set of bases (my Am Dlx P-Bass and Ric) and flip the others.

I don't blame you for not wanting unused instruments. Unfortunately, a few of the instruments I have need work on them to really be professionally playable again (electronic shorts, neck work, that sort of thing.) Eventually, I'd like to get them going again so they're not just collecting dust. It's just a matter of time and money. I'm really terrible at doing the work myself, even though I've been playing over 26 years. I suppose I could and should learn, but I'd rather have someone professional to do it that really knows what they are doing. In the past, I had musician friends who knew how to do all of that stuff and then some, so it wasn't something I had to worry about, plus I didn't really have a lot of issues with the gear (with the exception of an amplifier) I had at the time. I was lucky, I suppose.
