Got in from work tonight & there waiting for me was a package, & inside my Fender 9050L flatwound strings 45 - 100. So as per advice from linnin & others (a big thank you :) ) I changed the strings, one at a time & top loaded them as well :D . I haven't had time yet to hear how it sounds through my amp, that can wait until tomorrow but after 27 years of roundwounds I'm looking forward to a change (plus I like the look of the green silk wrap) :) .
The strings I took off are now on my '89 Squier precision which, now spends it's life in the hardcase my American standard came in. As it is the only bass I wish to play from now on.

That's cool. 8) It might take some time for them to get broken in, depending on your preference and how much you play, but once they do, that's when they really get that "sound." I like them best when they've been on for almost a year, but of course that might be too dead for some people. Then again, I've always been terrible about changing strings.

I plan on leaving them on for a couple of years,to get to that old sound plus it will save wear on my frets.

You know, I don't think I've ever had a bass long enough to where I wore out the frets. Maybe it is because I've used a lot of flatwound strings.

Awesome! Flats on a P is how bass should sound to me. I ran the set on my old 51 Reissue for 6 years til I sold it. The set on my 57 Reissue used to me on my old Antigua FSR. I actually pulled them off before selling it and restrung it for the kid who bought it with new rounds. He was excited. Hahahah. As soon as I got my 57 Reissue they went on and I can't imagine them coming off. They sound sooooo good. Enjoy. They only sound better with time!

That's what I'm hoping for that in a couple of years, they sound better than they do now :) .

They WILL sound better with time. I have a '51 Precision Reissue strung with Thomastik Infelds, a Road Worn Precision strung with Labella Deep Talkin Flats and an American Standard strung with an old set of Sadowsky Black Label flats.

I, too am addicted to the awesome combination of a Precision with flats. Does not get any better, IMO.

Now my Jazz basses all wear rounds....but that may change too 8)

One of the other bassists in my local scene plays J's. He'd always played rounds. After listening to my P tones he kept saying he wanted to try flats. So I talked him into go all in and getting a set of the Roto Tru Bass Black Taped Flats. He's completely head over heels for them. He keeps saying he wished he had listened to me earlier. I love the sound of flats on a J. Sweet old school reggae and ska tones for days.

Really getting into flatwounds on my precision :D I will get my neck checked out, in a couple of months just in case but I think it will be alright. Next on my list to finish my bass off a set of Fender straplocks, & a custom shop cable :) .

I used D'addario Flats for a few years, until I went to the dark side, ETB92 Nylons.

I've had strings that black on my Tele copy (not the Squier.) They weren't nylon, though. It was because I didn't change them in at least five years or more. :P I'm a lot better about that sort of thing these days at least.
