Does anyone know anything about this pickup?
Fender says it was "specifically voiced" for the Select P. I know enough to take marketing copy with a grain of salt, but am curious. It seems like it has a lot more mid-range than some of the other stock Fender pickups I've tried, I really like it. Is it underwound, overwound etc.

Probably properly wound, which by modern standards would be underwound but by vintage standards is correct. Overwound would be darker.

I have the same question regarding the Select pickup. Is it the same as the one called the "Original" pickup or as it was previously referred to, "The Original 62"? Because it sure looks like it from the pole pieces. The pole pieces are nicely finished, beveled and protrude from the pickup cover unlike the CS 60 or the Vintage 58 or Vintage 63 which have flat pole pieces that are flush with the plastic cover and look like they were ground and left unfinished (vintage look).

Take a look here:

Well I contacted Fender. Afterall they built it. Here is my email to Greg Armijo from Fender's Consumer Relations and his response:

Greg.
Is the Fender Select pickup underwound or overwound compared to a 2013 American Standard P-bass CS60 pickup? Usually, Fender has a voicing in mind for the new instrument line and builds the pickup to achieve that "voice". What were they going for when they designed the pickups for the Select P? Modern tone? Vintage? More mids than the CS60? They must have had a specific tone/voicing they were going for or they would have just put in some of the existing pickups like the "Original" or the Vintage 63. Why design a new pickup just for the Select P if they didn't have a specific tone in mind. Thanks.

Greg's response:

They wanted a to get a pickup that was a blend between a modern and vintage tone. They are going to sound very similar to the cs60 pickup. The only p bass pickups that aren't going to sound pretty similar are the noiseless pickups. The select pick ups are a little bit overwound compared to the cs60's.
