Hi guys,

Please can I have suggestions for popular songs that sound cool when played only on bass and vocals.

I have had a bass for 15 years but guitar has always been my primary instrument, so playing and singing my favorite songs on acoustic alone has been easy. I am getting more into bass now and find it harder to find good songs to do that with. I know I could pick my favorite guitar songs and then disect it and work at getting a bass only version, but I am wondering if there are songs that are more identifiable as they are geared towards a bass/vocal theme?

The only thing I could think of for you is disco, but! there has been a little twist to it in dub-step, known as " Nu Disco "

link right here for that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AHCy4f ... Txwzv1rKzg

Hope it helps or gives ya an idea.

Haha disco no thanks, I guess I will have to make do playing AC/DC, Coldplay, Nirvana, LedZeplin, Guns & Roses, Tracy Chapman ...............etc. the way I do on guitar. I will also just use backing tracks for bass then to play along too untill I get back into a band.

Stand By me? Iconic bass line and I think it might work with vox only.

That's a good one. Fever is another. You Send Me would also be excellent. You Can't Hurry Love!

"Under The Boardwalk," Drifters. (Bring in the keys at the chorus if you want.)
"Another One Bites The Dust" and "Under Pressure" both by Queen
"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds," Beatles.

The first song I thought of is "Come Together" by the Beatles. Very cool bass line - it carries the entire tune, IMHO.

Under the Boardwalk is perfect for bass, and My Girl can be done, just pick up the little guitar run on your bass, everything else is bass. I played that without the run when my guitar player was replacing a string and we were on a short leash, time wise...did have drum and keyboard though. I thought it came of very nice.

Fleetwood Mac's Dreams is pretty much a simple bass line embellished with a sprinkling of flavour from the other instruments. It should prolly stand up well with just vox and bass.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
