The '77 is definitely my favourite of the bunch... albeit you can really tell the difference in tone roll offs better with the other basses... But if I had to choose it would be that sweet '77 all the way..

I agree! The '77 sounds the best to me.

I think the Traditional(MIM) Precision sounded best.

On what kind of device do you watch (and listen) this video?

Most speakers of your laptop/PC/tablet are not ideal for bass reproduction.

So what are you are listening to?

Been a while, but a nice one to come back in on,

The 77 by miles, being a more pick driven player myself that bass had the more "lizzy" to my ears, also it was the only one imho that sounded any good with the tone off.

For all the clips, the '77 was my least favorite. Sounded thin and papery. Early Elvis Costello all over again. Wouldn't give you a nickel for it unless I could resell it fast.

The Japan model was ok, nothing special, but perfectly serviceable.

The Mexico-made was my 2nd place. Real nice balance all around.

The USA was my favorite. That huge low-end grunt is what did it for me. Its slightly hotter top end didn't appeal, but that's easily dialed out at the board if it doesn't suit the songs. Actually even that wouldn't be necessary because that top end would get lost in the mix anyway.

I own a new Mex and a new USA, and those clips perfectly represent what my samples sound like with identical string sets.

Perspective: In a mix, in your typical crappy, reflective room, no one in the audience would know the difference among any of those basses, with the possible exception of the '77. Same for the vast majority of modern studio mixes, where you can make anything sound like anything with the right plug-in.
