Both these Bass Centre tribute models are A+ investments because they are so darn scarce. They seldom show up in "public" sale forums any more and mint will bring from four to eight times the original sale price. Maury is said to have had several left and may have shipped some of them to London where several have shown up in the Euro collector market. The weak point in them would be the cases. The case lining colors are off from the real deal as the original orange colored poodle fur material was not available at the time so they used red.

Thanks for telling the story and the kind comments about the basses.

To clarify, it was Alan Morgan (the owner of The Bass Centre in L.A.) who may have shipped the remaining Jamerson & Jaco basses to England after the store closed in early 1996 (I left the store in mid-1993.) Alan moved back to England at that time.

Gosh that is good info to have. I wondered why several popped up in the UK. Both are super nice!

I agree. John Page, J. Black and the team did a great job at the FCS.

I have been researching the James Jamerson and the Jaco Pastorius Basses and Simply Said they have become almost forgotten treasures. A-lot of info particularly the number produced is unknown and based on my research is typically overstated. I have researched Bass Guitars in Gruhn's Guide, The Blue Book of Electric Guitars and others; Unless I missed something the First Bass Guitar to come out of the Fender Custom Shop that was modeled after an artist were these two basses. As I look around I see a parallel between the lost Funk Machine and these basses. They are becoming lost in time and if the basses are not documented then they will become a mystery as the memories fade with the passing of time. The man Chris Maury had the inspiration to make these happen and without him I would not be writing this today. Does anyone have a picture of the James Jamerson Bass with its case and certificates. If you do I would like to have it. I got a Picture from of the Jaco Bass it was number 18. I am writing an article on these basses and would love to have a picture of both with their certificates. I am hoping to get Chris Maury to review it along with the other folks I have talked to, and perhaps get it published to a least set the record as straight as it can be without written documentation.
