Do you think Fender should add the channel binding option for the Precision?

With Fender offering the channel bound fretboard option on a handful selection of their guitars, why not doing the same for their basses?

The Precision deserves a channel bound neck, IMO.

I am not a fan of binding. But, just because I don't like something doesn't mean that it may be right for someone else. Freedom of choice is a beautiful thing. I voted yes.

I would love to see a channel bound neck on any Fender bass. I would bet that Fender is more likely to do this on the Jazz bass first but a Precision Bass with a channel bound rosewood neck would be cool to see and to play.

In the case of the channel-bound Jazz Bass the fingerboard would likely feature white pearloid rectangular block inlays as opposed the Precision which will sport a clay dot-inlaid fretboard.

Do you really think they are going to use clay dots? Really? What other Fender modern era instruments have clay dots?

To the poster who says the pre-64 dots called "clay dots" are not clay, YOU are correct they are NOT clay. They are a plastic type filler product called IVORINE or a product very similar to Ivorine which is a wood filler developed for the furniture industry in the late 1800's. It dries bright white but changes color to yellow then tan quite rapidly partly because it is porous. It starts out the consistency of toothpaste. It has a tendency to swell or shrink depending on environmental exposures, is prone to scratches and does other crazy stuff which is why Leo Fender abandoned it by 1964 for celluloid. It takes much longer to cut and insert celluloid. It was way faster to dab it in the holes and smooth it out than cut and glue in celluloid dots, but it was unpredictable and often the finish was uneven.

I could swear the whole concept was brought up at the Lounge about a year ago.

Probably was. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein)
