A while back, couple years maybe, I bought this 63P with a 63J neck. It was a bad refin in black, and nothing was original except the wood.

It turned out the tuners were original too, but that really was about it.

I picked it up today after finally getting around to getting it refinished. Unfortunately, it is an overcast day and the picture does not accurately reflect the bass, which is much lighter than it appears, but you will get the idea.

I bought used bling for it, new pick guard, Lindy Fralin vintage pup (which I have always wanted to try), reissue knobs that are not exact to originals as hoped, but close. Used the bridge and grip bar which are appropriate but not original.

I will post another picture when I can get some natural light, because it is much sexier than it looks here. Not the color I wanted or ordered, which was surf green. Much lighter (despite pic) than Seafoam Green, but more blue than Surf Green. Just a nice pastel. They offered to refinish it correctly but I kind of like it, but the offer stands if I change my mind.

Of course, this is Florida, fifteen minutes later the rain stopped and the sun came out.

Kinda Turquoise! I like it! Just ditch those hideous ashtrays and put some artwork on that blank canvas of a pickguard and you'd have a really nice unique bass worthy of a unique bass player. I approve!

Local guy, Charlie Whitt. Wrong color, but nice finish. After an initial disappointment from pictures, I have grown attached to it seeing it in person.

I think it looks great - it's real close to the color I'm gonna spray my Fenderbird with...

Man that is a great combination (J neck and P body). And '63 is a great year-Pure Pre-CBS. I love Surf Green but the current color looks great.

Oh come on, Steve, and live a little! It's just a pieces-parts player class FrankenFender, right? Hot Rod that thing like T-Bone did! Paint it a Groovy tie dye, and put some Flower Power on that pickguard.

That's exactly what 60's bass players might have done after picking it up used for a hundred bucks or so! I'd do it! 8)

I do not think any of that is Affprod's style. Instruments should be a reflection of the owner's style.

The instruments of yours I've seen on here reflect your flamboyant style for sure! Yours work well for you but they wouldn't be right for me. "Different strokes for different folks, and so on and so on and scoobie doobie doobie."

I actually toyed with the idea of having a local artist paint a Florida beach scene on this bass and going to a clear guard. So sometimes my brain reaches out there, but that was the closest I ever came action, and it was close. Instead, I went with a pastel that reflects the ocean. Didn't quite get it, a little more blue than I wanted, but it has really grown on me. I like it. I am pretty much a traditionalist, which may equate to boring in some minds, but it makes me happy to look at a vintage bass, that looks like a vintage bass.

Hey, I own a Katana......does that count?

LOL!

Steve
