Oof... I'd keep my Roger Waters prec bass over my MIJ '89 Lyte and my Dean (which I am currently turning into a functional piece of art).

If I could get my hands on a '57avp though....

@KOP: why did you have to sell it all?

I didn't really HAVE to. However, I'm going to either be ordering or buying used a Custom Shop 51 or 55 Precision. So I'm getting rid of all gear I don't use. My rig is going as I just replaced it with a Bassman 100T and 410. I had an FSR Antigua Precision and a Classic 70's Precision in Oly White. Both absolutely killer basses. Especially for the money I paid. However, they just never made it out of their cases once the AVS 57 came along. It seemed a waste to have really nice basses that never gigged. So I moved them on to players who would play them. Because that's the point of having them, in my opinion. My Fender BG-31 Acoustic Bass Guitar was a really nice ABG for the money. I got it for a song years ago from a guy who only used it once on a recording project. In hopes I would use it for acoustic gigs. In 6 years I used it on 5 gigs. So it got moved on. I made a decision that if I was going to upgrade my gear that I was going to unclutter myself as a bassist and get the instruments and equipment into hands that can use it. I've been back to playing for almost 10 years now. In that time I've finally been around the block enough to know what I do, and don't like and prefer when it comes to gear and tone. Plus, moving a ton of unused gear keeps the woman happy. 8)

There Can never be just one ....... have you gone Mad?... Man! but I'll meet you halfway & say I'd take 2 basses. 1x Fretted & 1x Fretless. The Fretless would be my Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz Bass & the Fretted would be a toss up between my Marcus Miller Jazz Bass, My Select Jazz Bass or my recently acquired Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass ....... & the more I think about it I'd take my Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass because of it's versatility with the P/J set up.... :) Which one would be your one & only Ox??

1. I started this thread so if anybody gets a doughnut, it should be me!

2. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

3. The thread was mean I admit it.

James,

At this moment, and I'm sure this will come as a shock, it would be my new Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Special. It has found a niche in my playing that makes a lot more happen consistently in my playing.

I don't find it Shocking at all ....The Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass Special is a nice Bass,....... neat mix a Bass with both a Jazz single coil pick up at the Bridge & a Humbucker pick up at the neck, & a 3 way slider pickup selector switch... :)
The best part is it makes you feel good when you play it .... (very important) :)

I don't have a Fender at the moment, but I'll be picking one up next Friday. I think it's a 2001 MIM Jazz Standard in near mint condition, unless they have something I like better. I miss the Fender neck...

I'll be getting replacement pickups shortly afterward if you all have suggestions. I do like Dimarzio, Duncan, Fender.

Will a regular set fit? It's one of the pre-transition Jazzes with the identical pickup size. It's a very slight difference..

I don't know much about all the brands. Probably be best to get Fender's...
