I can't do it Ox, I would have to kill myself. I suppose, hypothetically, I could say my AV57P, since that is my primary gigging instrument at the moment.

I am living this right now. (Though I am in the process of getting a Custom Shop 55 or 51 Precision) However, as of about a month and a half ago I have sold everything but my American Vintage 57 RI. Honestly, while I prefer the single coil to the split I could live the rest of my life with this bass and not have an issue. It is the best instrument I have ever owned, and the best split coil tone I have ever heard. My playing has improved since I've owned it and I find myself having regular breakthroughs on it. It has received nothing but compliments from all manner of musicians that I've gigged with. As far as split coils go. This is THE one.

Quite the dilemma isn't it? As I said, a situation where there has to be a decision. At this moment there were 20 view to this post, only you responded KOP, no one was willing to allow themselves to go through with a decision,

Come on people, play the game.

It is kind of interesting the both KOP and I mentioned the AV57....I guess that says something about that particular build.

It is a hard thing to think about. I think especially for either people just starting out and still finding their way, or for people who might be fortunate enough to have a few special pieces. I've had a few really nice basses since I started playing again. Most of them would have been perfectly serviceable to play for years. However, the 57 Precision tone has always been my ideal of what a split coil should sound like and I'm glad I finally treated myself to an American Vintage model. If this were it for me. I'd always miss not having the Single Coil option, but I'd be comfortable with this being my voice til I'm gone. No regrets. It's that nice of a bass, and it feels like home.

I had to change the one bass to the Precision. It plays, and sounds to good.

Sorry, Fender - but it would be my Schecter Diamond Series Stiletto Elite 5..... my go-to bass for most everything these days. The Fender Standard J-Bass, now that it has Dimarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz pickups, would be a close second.

I have only owned 3 basses. My first bass was an Aria which I traded in on my 87 MIJ PBass. My new bass is an American Deluxe Dimension IV HH. As much as I like my new bass, I would have to choose my PBass.

Never really considered this before, but if it came down to one I would select my 1991 Fender Precision Bass Lyte. Not the classic Fender tone per se, but a solid bass that sure had its power and tone.

Painful for sure. I own 10 and am building a P bass currently but at the moment I would keep the Road Worn Precision. Nothing I own sounds quite likt this beast.

My '76 Precision hot rod. It's got my soul and mojo all over it; in it, and through it. I'll die with it. 8)

My 1959 Fender Precision bass. No reissue, no custom shop, the real deal.

Oof... I'd keep my Roger Waters prec bass over my MIJ '89 Lyte and my Dean (which I am currently turning into a functional piece of art).

If I could get my hands on a '57avp though....

@KOP: why did you have to sell it all?
