Hi there!

Mostly, I am playing guitar but after all these years I thought It's time to try something new, and since I always wanted to have blue axe, here it is. I'm also fan of Maiden and Steve is my main inspiration here, in the future I would like to modify my bass, so it will be close to what Steve got.

So, what can you tell me guys about it?

Made by Fujigen in Matsumoto Japan under contract for Fender Japan. This serial could be anywhere from 1984 till 1987. These are very desirable.

I'm not sure I'd modify anything on it. The "E84" Made In Japan serials are the second most collectible MIJ Fenders. Modify anything and it is no longer collectible.

I'm not real fond of Fender Japan electronics, but would not modify any collectible Fender Japan instrument nor would I modify any signature or limited series ones either beyond changing strings.

While this thing will never be worth as much as a USA 1957 Precision, there are people who like collecting these. I would not buy one of these and then start modding it. If you want a Steve Harris P-Bass buy a Steve Harris signature model, but don't mod it either! LOL.

Nice bass!

Okay, this is just my opinion. For about five years, say 82-87, MIJ Fender basses were darn good, perhaps the best MIJ builds ever. I would be surprised it this piece actually needed modding. I would think it would have a nice sound to it, probably just a little bright, but good bottom. Toss a set of flats on it to mellow the tone a bit, then rock and roll.

Regarding Steve Harris signature series and modding, someone on this forum had one they had put a chrome pick guard on and it was sick. Almost made me buy one, serious GAS. You could probably find that post if you looked for it, but be warned, you will want it.

What about a MIJ P Bass with serial number "E86". I bought it new in 1987. It has been a great bass. Still sounds great and I have only had the setup gone through once, after it was recovered from being stolen. It is like a member of my family.

I can tell you about the bass- It's blue, it looks good, and it looks like there is a slight bump on the side of the body that completely ruins it so you should send it to me. :D
I think but in no way force my opinions on anyone but if it were me and if I were not totally happy with the way it sounds stock- I would be thinking about pickups, caps, pots, and new strings. But what Brother Dave said about its collectability would make me think hard before I did any removing of stock parts.

Nice bass man!!

Is that a 73 P bass in the one pic? 72?

I have a MIJ E905464 and it is great. What I like most is the neck, very fast and easy to play. Thinking of selling it, as I just got a '62 reissue. Anyone know the value of the MIJ 1984-1987? thanks

Depends largely on your location and condition of the thing. In a private sale here in the southeastern USA $300 for a player class modified one in fair condition to $750 for excellent and 100% original condition. Dealers may ask more but be negotiable to near those figures. Yours is probably somewhere in between. In certain foreign markets including Europe one would bring more because it is scarcer in those markets than here. I recall a really nice one for sale in Germany for about $1400 recently. Local market conditions matter greatly.
