Glad it worked out for you! Piggy backing off Craigs post. How is the nut on this bass? Does it look original? I wonder if someone tried to use a BEAD set up on this at one point? In any event. Hopefully she will stabilize and be good from here on out. Yes, it is normal for there to be a little bow one way or the other at tension. Every neck is different as said above. I think the main thing that was shocking was the play in it. Enjoy the bass! They are top shelf for sure!

Yes the nut did look original and you never know with used gear, someone could have set it up to play heavy dropped D stuff?? I was just a little bummed because I sold my 62 avri jaguar(guitar) to buy this one. I ended up buying a brand new Johnny Marr Olympic white jaguar just because I love the short scale of the jaguar/jazzmasters.

This bass is going to be a keeper though, the neck takes a bit to get used to because it is so wide compared to my jazz bass. I didn't really like it at first but now when I play my jazz I don't really like how thin it is, it almost seems harder to play.

I'm with you on J necks. I have small, but meaty hands and I prefer a P. The thin, narrow J neck is less work in terms of movement, but it actually fatigues my hand faster because I have to keep my hand in an unnatural position. The Johnny Marr is a nice Jag from what I've heard, and I love his playing. After all the work you've put into her you might just appreciate this bass even more than usual. You fixed it, and should she hold that's a bond that you can't "buy". You saved it. That's gotta mean something, right?

Yeah my hands are the same pretty much. Automotive mechanic for years now and playing the wider p-bass neck you think would be harder but I have to stretch my hands to reach the nots which feels more comfortable. Playing the same songs or chords on the jazz neck feels tight or closer together. I mean I love the feel of the jazz neck also but prefer the p-bass. I think the early 50's and 60's reissues are the necks with the 7.25 radius and the super wide neck. I had a 57 reissue and it was the same. My 78 p-bass that I now sold had a really thin neck like the jazz. So many different variations its crazy.

The johnny marr jag, I researched the guitar like crazy but didn't really know who he was. I just wanted a white jag. I got the guitar a few weeks later and it came with his bio booklet, he played for modest mouse which is a band I really like, so I thought that was pretty cool. I youtubed him playing with them and he's using this guitar!! Pretty cool.

Yep. Same here. My main bass is my 57RI. As far as Johnny goes. He was also the guitarist in the Smiths and childhood friend of The Cult's Billy Duffy. Somewhere out there in youtube land there's a live video of him and his band doing "I Fought the Law" joined by Billy Duffy. It's pretty awesome.

I had the honey blonde 57 reissue, mexian made. The quality was unreal, I ended up selling it for some reason. Then every other bass I had after that didn't really compare to how that one felt. The 62 avri had the same neck but with rosewood so I figured that will be the bass to find. I found it a bit rough but it's the same feel as the 57

Nice rescue job on that neck w/ the washers, etc.

Welcome to the Why Did I Ever Sell That Bass club. How many '70s Ps did I own and are now gone? (As I bang my head against the wall.)

The story of the Squier at the store saddens me. Wonder how come the store didn't send it back with a nasty note: "We ain't sellin' this, boys. Wanna try again?"

Anyway, glad you got things sorted out.

As much as I LOVE the tone of a Jazz bass I have switched over to P-bass only due to how finicky the jazz neck is,everysingle jazz I owned had a walk on egg-shells neck, and whats even worse is the "re-issues"dont have the "graphite dowells"to add rigidity.
Bring it to a Luthier and see if he(or she)can apply the craft and get the neck in decent playing order,ME on the other hand would be on the horn with Fender forst chance, GOODLUCK!
