Sorry this may be a bit long. The body is a MIM Mike Dirnt that I got off of ebay it was balck, the pickguard and control plate are for a 51 so the holes didn't match up so I filled them in and drilled new ones, the bridge is a MIM bridge the pups are from the '50s Precision Bass and the football jack plate and neck plate "with my own serial number" are Fender. I put CTS 250 pots 0.47 Orange cap and Switchcraft jack in it. The knobs, string guide, tuners, and oversized strap buttons are Gotoh, I also moved the top strap button to its right place. The neck is a B. Hefner reversed Head and I used a bone nut.I painted the body and dyed the neck with Reranch stuff but did the back of the neck with tru-oil to make it more fast. And I aged all the hardware too.Just want to see what you guys think about it. Thanks

I did something similar to my Sting bass. Eventually I switched out the pots with full size 500K's and I used a 473 cap also. I think the 500's opened up the sound a bit. The 50's p bass pickups are okay but there are better ones out there. That's not to say the 50's are no good.

I was thinking of going with a name brand pups Vance but I wanted to stick with Fender and they sound really good.
Thank you Pain :)

 Looks like you did a good job to me! :) I just really hate that style of pickguard, and find them repulsively ugly. Sting gave his a fling with which I concur as being the right thing. Oh, I just kill me!

Personally, I think the Classic/Roadworn series 50's Pups sound great. The only pups that are stock Fender I like better are the 57, 62 58, and 59 RI P pups. (well besides the single coil P pups ;) ) If you end up going aftermarket the Duncan Antiquities are nice, but honestly you can usually grab a set of pups out of a Mike Dirnt off ebay for a decent price and they are CS 59 RIs. Pretty hard to beat. The only pup I prefer to those are the 57RI. Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with the pick ups you went with. Every Roadworn or Classic 50's P I've played sounded great to me.

READ AGAIN ! Me not say 50's P BASS pickup suck! Me have personal preference ! Okay so everything is good and I'm going to go watch baby ducks swim in the pond near the cattails and I'll play one of those Indian pan flutes that I just love. :D

I didn't mean to imply that's what you meant. I know that's not what you meant. There are certainly a lot of choices when building a parts bass out there. Some expensive. Some not. I think if you're building one from stock Fender parts the 50's pick ups are the best of what is considered the "lower end" Fender pups. Meaning also the Mexi Standard, American Special, and the 70's spec vintage style pups. (the later I own in a bass and dig just fine, but the 50's I think are a more "classic" vintage Fender tone)

I think if you're looking for parted out Fender pick ups on the cheap to build a bass. The 50's pups are certainly the best of those choices. I was just saying that if you bide your time you can sometimes find the Dirnt pups for a decent price. There are a lot of people who will buy a Dirnt bass as Green Day or in general punk fans and not dig them because they do have a very sweet smooth vintage tone. So they go on to rip them out foolishly and replace them with something like 1.4lbs. (which if you're playing modern punk or hard rock isn't a bad choice) Then throw them up on ebay for a low price. Likely assuming that since the Dirnt is a mexican made bass that the pick ups aren't worth much. However, the model is outfitted with the same pick ups you get in a Custom Shop 59 Precision. So it's an easy way to get yourself a set of top shelf RI P bass pups with killer vintage tone. Without going the expensive aftermarket route.

Nice. The Dirnt is a great starting platform. I LOVE the old single coil Precision and I love that his bass gives you the split coil tone with the first generation look. The side jack, metal control plate, 51 style guard are all just so classy. I'd honestly have had a Dirnt Roadworn by now if it had a 51 spec neck. I just can't get along with the 9.5 radius and the giant late 60's neck profile. The stock Dirnt pups are really a steal if you can find them. If you end up going that route I doubt you'd be disappointed. The CS 59's sound killer. Especially with a set of the old school nickel rounds or flats. Really great smooth tone. However, I really dig the Classic 50's tone, too. I've never played a Roadworn Precision that sounded like anything but a vintage P. What are the neck specs on that neck you used? Radius, nut width and fret wire?

Fingerboard radius 9.5, modern C shape neck profile, fret size 6150, nut 1-5/8" long x 1/8" slot x 11/32" tall.

Man, if that neck had the vintage radius and frets I'd be itching to build myself one. I think I might be able to deal with the thick profile of the Dirnt neck if it had the vintage radius. Though it'd still be tough to get around on I bet. However, a thick profile with a flat radius really kills my wrists. I find the vintage radius a much more natural fit. This is a killer build. I love the reverse headstock. It's just cool in every way. Makes me wish guys like you were working at Fender. :D
