Well, it is my only bass right now as I play mostly 6 strings. But started doing some guitar work in a band and we have no bass so I have to keep it, but since I may play it seriously I attend to return to original 4 string. Then again once I come across something I like better I'll probably sale that one.

I'm surprised that none of you old timers recognized a Fender Precision 4 to 5 string conversion kit. These came out in the 90's.

If it is priced right, I would buy it in a minute.

I would try it as a 5 string and use it that way if you like it. These kits allowed the use of a 4 string bass neck to carry 5 strings without drastically modifying the bass.

DON'T remove that logo! That is a legit Fender neck and use that bass as you want.

If you want to convert it back to 4 string- Just change the nut and string tree back to stock and away you go.
It's a Schecter body and probably stamped under the pickups or somewhere.

Have fun with it.

Thank you BC, yes it was priced pretty low :)
Well I may give it a try as a 5 stringer but if I dont switch the bridge when converting back to 4 string, I'll have an empty saddle, wouldnt the string spacing be off?

If you are converting it back to four strings a new bridge is mandatory because the spacing would certainly be off.

My initial post was just referring to the neck on the bass. It is an easy conversion back to four strings and what is cool bout having a Fender neck is that you can swap it with the neck on another Fender bass and sometimes create a bass that far exceeds what you had before.

If you just want to use that body then go for it.

Good luck with the bass.

Based on BC's response, sounds like a good move. Never heard of such a kit. We both learned something. Glad my response did not result in a non reversible error. I just see so many basses that are incorrect....glad you have a good one, in fact I would join those interested in the neck, just because of what it is. Never too old to learn...

Best of luck. Keep thumpin'

The bridge is from the early 90s and is called "Wilkinson 4 to 5 conversion kit". Five-string-basses were not very common at this time and hard to get in Germany. So a guitar magazine tested this kit and I had the opportunity to buy one in New York during a nice vacation. You only have to change the saddle and do not have to make new holes, a brilliant idea! The only thing you can say against it, the strings get closer together, a feel like Jazz Bass on a P-Bass-neck, but playing with fingers instead of a pick is like playing on a Bass VI, you must change you style and slapping is very difficult.
