  Double check the serial just to make sure, then call Fender's Customer Relations. You can also email them for all information.

What seems to be the problem? Do you think it's a fake, or what?

I ran the number and nothing came up.
Seller says it is US made, want to know what model this is. He's asking $500 so almost sounds too good to be true.

I ran a number on another P Bass I was hoping to buy, a 70's. Serial number came up good but it was a total fake. It's on Buffalo's C-list

Enjoy
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/msg/4233537926.html

The S was larger than the rest of the number, also on the back of the headstock.
The shape of the headstock was a complete rip off, sharp edges not rounded.

I've got an e-mail into Fender right now.

After looking at the pictures, I can see why you're concerned. You might want to call Fender Customer Service. 480.596.9690

I called about a bass I bought and the serial number didn't match. their explanation was, it was a replacement neck.

Good luck!

The US11 prefix plus 6 numbers is a serial number that Fender used for 2011 models.

>>thoughts ? US11281973<<

Mine is also a 2011 MIA Standard Precision with a similar serial number to yours. Mine doesn't come up in the database either.

I believe it's because of this from the Fender serial # page.

>>This new scheme uses the letters “US” as a prefix to designate an instrument made in the United States, followed by an eight-digit number. The first two digits of the number identify the year of manufacture, (10 for 2010, 11 for 2011, etc.). The following six digits are the unit identifier, although it should be noted that these final six numbers are not sequential and do not provide any other identification information about the instrument. This new scheme is now used on the majority of U.S.-made Fender instruments, with exceptions including the American Vintage series and certain special-run instruments.<<

Even though they are saying the final six numbers weren't sequential and mean nothing I'd feel better if my serial number was in the database. :)

Sometimes when serials don't verify or conform to what is posted on the Fender website or return unrecognized at guitardaterproject.org they are export models. This practice started in the early days of Fender where the serial would be one that didn't fit the format for domestically distributed ones. The foreign distributors keep up with the serials of the instruments they import and these are never included in any database Fender maintains for public access. Fender may however have a record of it and where it was exported to, especially on one made just 3 years ago. It would be worth contacting Fender Consumer Relations to inquire on the number. Email the inquiry to consumerrelations@fender.com and their other contact information is as follows:
