The Am. Std. really have shown great for my tastes in basses, to be the major reason I've locked in on Fender for my basses. More comfortable to play than Gibsons, and a cut through sound better than Rickenbackers.

I would be willing to bet oxfan's gas money is hidden about here and there throughout his house in grease stained brown paper bags.
I believe Fenton Farnjsworth convienced him doing that is safer than keeping his money in banks.

.....Back on subject.....Another vote for the American Standard line. I've used my Am Stnd P V on about every gig I've played since Feb of last year. Wouldn't trade it for any other.

I went to guitar center today, and they finally got in the USA standards. Now i see what yall are talking about! The playability blew me away, and the sound was what a p bass should sound like.

Funny you should mention it. Wifey was just saying that we need to add on a room to accommodate my gear should I get another one.

Must be Fate speaking to me!

I don't know. I've played a lot of American Standard P basses. They don't play or sound anything like a P bass to me. They play and sound like a knock off. Neutered. Next to an AVS or even a Dirnt P they don't stack up in the tone department. The necks don't play anything like a P bass to me. 9.5 radius? Artificially rolled edges? Medium Jumbo frets? It's cool if people dig them, but there's nothing about either of the lower end American P
basses that remind be of their predecessors. JMO, of course.

I think I agree with this. I've owned severatall Usa Jazz and P's of origin 2001- 2010 (approx) and they do sound a bit knock-offish. I realize some Fender basses sound better than others but I have had experience with the neutered sound vibe thing. I won't go all specific but yeah King of Pain ain't far off ( because we take in to consideration all the variables). I'd say my MIM Classic P and my MIM Roadworn P do sound like the real deal more than the real deals sound like the real deals in certain cases (variables considered).

I have learned that once I have a dullard there is no use throwing money at it. The sound problems I think, originate in the wood of the neck or the body. I have proved this to myself with experimentation. I have seen the nimrod basses go away and fade out behind me in my rear view mirror.

I've had the exact same experience. The Classic Series MIM P's, to me anyway. Play and feel like real P basses. Obviously, the AVS are the benchmark and these basses aren't in that league. However, when it comes to the American Special and Standard they play like nice basses. Very good quality. However, they play like really nice basses made by another company. They are very fine, and well made instruments. However, when I think "P bass" the AVS, Roadworn, and Classic series instruments are what I think off. Again, just my opinion.

Do you all play your AMS P- basses with the cover plates on or off?

Real deals vs. Nimrod basses

How many of each have you had?

Inquiring minds want to know :D
