I just purchased a 2008 Fender American Precision Bass at a local music store here in Austin, TX.
The store manager stated that it was new and has never left the store or been registered.
The store is well-known and has been in Austin for a long time
They charged $849.00 plus tax for a total of $919.00.
The bass guitar does appear to be new. It is as tight as a Swiss Watch.
It sounds amazing. (Compared to my old bass, anyway)
Here is my question ...... Was this a good deal?
The store manager said I could bring it back if I do not want it.
They told me that it is covered by the original warranty since I am the first owner.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank You

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new bass.

I'm not sure if you have the American Special or the American Standard Precision. A new 2013/14 American Special will list at most online stores for $1,000 while a new 2013/14 American Standard will list for $1,250.

If you like how the bass sounds and plays and if you feel okay with what you paid for it.....then you made a good deal.

Relax and enjoy playing that bass. Post a few pics when you get the chance.

Thank you for the replies.
The bass I purchased is a 2008 (2009?) American Standard.
The serial numbers indicate it could be a 2008 or a 2009.
I'm not quite sure how to narrow it down to the exact year.
I played it again this morning.
I think I'm in love ...... LOL

I picked up a new American Standard (Series) 2004-05 sunburst Precision last December from a local music store. Paid a little less, it had a nick on the upper horn where the strap lock is. Plays great though. Pre aged   Congrats on your find, enjoy!!!

I only have a small practice amp right now ...... It is an "Acoustic B10".

I usually practice in the morning before school ...... Sometimes ... I don't even turn on the amp if my girlfriend is still asleep.

I like to go into a quiet room and just practice for an hour. I love the sound that the Bass makes all by itself.

After I have saved some money ...... I might get an "Orange Crush" amplifier ...... They make a 50 watt amp for under $300.

Any advice on amplifiers ???

I'd be careful about using Orange. I'd look into Gallien-Krueger, TC Electronics, or Fender Rumble combos. Those three are pretty solid performers. Price reasonable also.

+1 Agree with Mr. Nylon. While those little Orange b'amps sure look cute the sound is strictly 'Hello Kitty'.

An intirely new Fender Rumble line is all set to make it's official debut at Winter NAMM next week. Pop down to the bass amp forum and read what we know about them so far. For $300 you should be able to get the Rumble 100 1x12 combo. Rumbles are well designed; rugged amps that sound great and are both road-worthy & gig-worthy. 8)

What I think is the best advice, be patient, try a bunch before you buy and don't let yourself settle for something less.

Personally, I'd go with a Rumble, as mentioned, they're great amps and won't break the bank. There should be some 15% off deals in the near future from the online stores, and they offer free shipping.

It's better to have one or two of everything, instead of five or six. i speak from experience.
