Got to get my hands on one of these. I was disappointed in the Squier Fretless Jazz, they sucked, hopefully these are better.

The idea of a Fretless Precision is great. no chance I'll buy one unless Fender comes out with an American Standard.

Hi OX, I totally agree with you about the American Standard version of a possible Fretless Precision. And,……….. slap a Maple board on it too. Dare to be great!

I played one. Saw it online at one of my local stores (Bananas at Large), felt a huge GAS attack, even stuck enough cash in my wallet to buy it if I liked it!

All in all, not bad. One of the issues I read about was that the fret lines on some of the Jazz version protruded - the fingerboard on this one felt fine, I could feel the fret lines if I ran my finger over them directly but not while playing. The dots were in the normal fretted spots, but with the fret lines it wasn't an issue. Lines don't particularly bother me.

It sounded fine - played it through an Aguilar Tone Hammer & cab - though it was set up more for "mwah" - round wounds & action pretty low - if I want mwah I'll get a Jazz, with a P I want a deeper sound, so if I were to get the bass I would quickly get some flats on there and set it up with a bit higher action. I noticed that someone probably did some guitar vibrato on it, there were some slight marks on the fretboard from the strings already.

So I finally decided not to go for it. Not that it's a bad bass, but just decided that I didn't need it and would rather spend the money elsewhere. Like maybe even save up for a vintage '70s with the maple fretboard - that's what I would much rather have, maybe it's time to start working towards that dream instead. If I didn't already have a couple of fretlesses I might have gone for it!

As I said in an ealier post ....I think there's enough Nostalgic interest for a USA made Fretless P-bass with Maple fretboard,....an Ash body with Natural finish or 3 tone sunburst would be nice body finishes... :)

I enjoy my 74P. I own two fretless, one jazz, one precision. The newer Jaco is an excellent bass as well, and perhaps a bit easier to play, but there is something about the 74P. Maybe it is more mental than physical because it is such a beautiful bass. Every time I pick it up, it just feels special. They both sound appropriately jazz or precision, especially on those occasions where I actually hit the notes correctly. :D

Who here realizes that a fretless Precision bass is pretty much an oxymoron.

Not a comment on the bass itself, just a comment on the name and the description.

That said--I'll stick with the J Bass for a fretless, I love the necks.
But I'll get an MIM or MIA--depending on how much I save up and if I get any good deals.

But for P Bass fans--it would be cool.

Gorgeous bass! Fretless basses are an adventure. They hold little mysteries that once discovered, have a way of making you want to play them all the time.

Very well stated Mr. OX. Fretless Jazzes have an almost relaxed, effortless playability to them. A friendly, flowing feel, less rigidity to playing it. 8)

Well, way to go! you just made a bunch of people think that fretless basses were so easy to play, now they'll run out and buy one and in six months they'll sell it,

If this applies, PM me and I'll buy it!

Mr. Nylon's Upscale Bass Emporium, will be there to help to locate new homes for any wayward Image Fretless Basses. "Windy" isn't one.

The pictured bass in its present state sports a black shell guard.

They did a fretless American Standard P in the mid-1990s. Discontinued in 1998.

(bass is not mine)

Hmmm... I don't know. The Squier might actually get me to bite. Obviously I'd have to play it first, though. I had a defretted Musicmaster years ago that I strung with black tapes. I've always loved the sound of a fretless, but they're usually J's that I stumble on for some reason. A fretless P sounds great, but honestly there are only certain songs I'd use it on. So I'd never even put down the money for a MIM model, much less an overpriced US model. It just wouldn't be cost effective. Personally, I always wished they'd make a Single Coil Fretless P. To me, the Single Coil P pick up would be the epitome of smooth, but full and rich tone. Couple that with a fretless neck and black taped flats? Tasty!
