ME TOO! I started using a pick again after figuring out that the songs I'm learning have a certain sound I can only get with the side of a pick-- so yes the pick is a tool . It R good and I like it but I'm still a finger guy. The wierdest pick I ever saw was one my friend cut out from a dish soap bottle -- NICE!!!!! :D Don't be a tool....use one !!!

Happy Christmas and other type Celebrations all over the World or whatever you are into.

An old trick from the early 1960's was to use a dime, nickel or quarter instead of a pick. The metal on metal gives some interesting effects and the type of coin changes the overall effect because of the different edge thickness between coins. A little hard on strings, however.

My ex-girlfriend suggested I should use a pick.

I don't like to, in public anyway.....but there are some things that if I was covering I'd have to use a pick for. I use REALLY thick picks but not lately at all. The coins not only were used back "in the day" but still are used. I think Brian May still uses coins.

Hey even President Obama gets it FINGERSTYLE!

I mostly use fingers to play bass, but sometimes a pick works better--I find some rhythms are easier to get with a pick

I've been experimenting using my right index fingernail instead of a pick. Gets roughly the same sound. The jury is still out.

I don't have a pick, I have a mattock, with a wide blade as well as, the pick side. I'm pretty happy with it.

I've done that-especially for down up picking-but sometimes a pick works better.

I've tried picks over the years, just never cared for them.

I play both ways, more often finger style. I use a pick when that sound type is needed.

Yeah- the intro bass part for the song "Would" by AIC(right?) anyway you can tell he's kind of got the pick sideways and raking it on the strings AND it sounds like roundwound strings.

There are some smokin' pick players out there: Bobby Vega, Joe Osborn, Carol Kaye, Chris Squire, Andy West, ooohhh ANTHONY JACKSON (when he uses one) Steve Swallow, the list goes on and on...

I don't use a pick at all. If the song calls for the attack of a pick I just use my right index finger like it was a pick. I drop picks too much which is the reason for this meathod.
ABS :)
