BOTH!

Never either/or, always both. I keep my Precision in GHS Precision Flats, and my Jazz in DR Neons (rounds). I can play: any genre; anytime, anywhere.

I lean towards flats on my precisions and teles, although I do have them on one jazz and one mustang. Most of my basses have rounds. I have to admit, I enjoy playing the flats more, but I go with the bass and what sound is needed for the playlist.

I keep waiting for Mr. Nylon to try and seduce me to the dark side. I have built up defenses.

I missed that this was a Precision thread, sorry. Flats, without a doubt.

Yes, both flats and rounds. Nylons...not so much.

I was going to say both as well but on a P with just the single P pickup I think I prefer flats. Now if it was a P-J setup I would say rounds. Of course, it depends on what kind of music you are playing, but if I were using music that required rounds I personally wouldn't select a P bass, if that makes sense.

Each has a purpose and each has to be evaluated for parameters and sound by a user.

In my case, I have used GHS M3050 or GHS M3050-5 Precision Long Scale Plus Flats for more years than I can remember. Flats work the best for my style of playing as well as for the deep, mellow lines that our yearly playlists dictate. For classic rock (pre 1970) and for the Country, Classic Country and Blues lines that I play, flats are the only strings for me.

Those GHS strings are what I have on my Duck Dunn Sig right now - going to experiment with DR Legends.

There's just something about flats!

They have a tendency to last longer, do much less long term damage to frets and fingerboards and if you do happen to slide off of or onto a string, there is no round wound squeak. That small noise can destroy a recording session and drives audio engineers nuts. Been there, done that.
