Nice bass. It looks like a '75.
The original wiring was black and white with plastic insulation. The vintage thing was still developing in '75 but most people were not going to replace the wiring in their bass at that time.
the reason your bass has new wiring is that the Dimrzio pickup came with enough wire to redo the whole bass if someone wanted to. I assume you bought the pickup and had the shop do the work to replace the original Fender pickup. Too bad that you didn't keep the original.

I had never heard that the original Fender P-bass pickups from the mid -70's were over wound. What is the source of that information and what does that mean for the sound of the bass?

I would assume that it would make the bass louder than underwound pickups, correct?
I own a 1976 Precision and it sounds great with its original pickup.

From what I understand the overwinding of the pickups does not give them more out put. I think they sound weak and not all that good. There's a lot of info out there. Plus Brother Dave knows all the specifics.

I guess I'll have to try the image shack.

The road did get boring at times. I fell asleep playing once. Fortunately I snapped back awake before I fell out on the stage. I had an offer to go to Memphis and I met the guys from Muscle Shoals. The amount of playing I did made my hands really strong.

Sounds like you put up the P after a long time too. I'm getting back in a Hard Rock group and I've ordered some Dimarzio Rails for the 74. I think I'll slap those in and take up where I left off with the bass. I have that 79 Dimarzio in a Classic 50's bass and it sounds killer. I love the old Dimarzio pickups. They measure at 11k ohms which is the same as some pre CBS pickups.

Almost fell asleep on the stage!!!! What were you playing.......Freebird....Desperado.....Tequila Sunrise....oh...oh yeah....Cocaine? A nickel for everytime you played those and a few others too, uh?
I would imagine you have met quite a few in your travels and had several offers. We did get to open a few shows back in the day. That was always interesting.
Yeah, I'm back to the passive p-basses and really happy about it. I strayed starting with that Power Jazz and then the 5'ers, which were always Jazz basses since Fender hasn't made very many P 5's. I just can't kick the 5 string habit.

Passive is the way to go. Playing 5 string basses is more of a lifestyle than a preference. You can't help yourself and at this time, there is no cure. From what I've gather, after extensive inquiries, is, you can lead a relatively normal lifestyle, one thing that 6 out of eight sources say, eliminate squid from your diet.

stroker can't post pics so I'll help him out!

Wow! You are truly a gentleman and a role model to the masses. How many people would do what you have done?

I showed the cat the computer and read what was written, Her's what his opinion was.

Most people don't remember.....but that soundtrack was originally recorded by the legendary blues artist Fluffy McFarland.
A couple of months back I was lucky enough to run into him, by chance, at the world famous Tootsie's Blues Barn & Herbal Boutique in Bugtussle, Oklahoma.
I was able to get this picture of him as he performed "Honey, Let Me Be Your Salty Dog".

You do know, he traveled and recorded extensively with Fenton for years. They did a lot of stuff at Muscle Shoals and in Nashville too.
