HI, i've got a question on 5 strings P bass. I'm wondering when Fender starts the first model of P Bass V. I found a Mexican jazz bass 5 strings from 1998.. but nothing for P bass.
Thanks for time.

There have been a couple Fender P-Bass 5 string models. The first being the Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass 5 string, which had a traditional P-bass pickup plus a large humbucker at the bridge and active electronics. The production run for that model was 1999 - 2007 if my memory serves me right. These were pretty awesome basses, too!

And then there's the Fender American Standard Precision 5 string. That model was introduced in 2008 and is still in production today. It's a passive bass with the single Precision pickup.

More recently, a budget version of the P-Bass 5 string has been offered through the Squier brand name. I think there may have been an older Squier Precision 5 string, but that was more of a name than anything else, as that instrument had Jazz bass pickups.

I thought the actual 1st Fender five string bass was in the 60"s. Tho not tuned like a current 5 string. Instead of a low "B" they had a high "B" or "C" string???? And had smaller horns.

Squier Precision Bass Special V.

There was also a Squier Protone V with a pair of humbuckers, gold hardware, white moto shell pickguard and a 5-in-line tuner configuration. No longer produced.

Discontinued in 1971.

CBS used left-over parts to create the ill-fated Swinger/Musiclander in 1969.

Rick Nielsen has(d) an original Swinger finished in Teal Green Metallic.
